I don’t think I have had a better hotel stay in my life! A great, cozy hotel stay with an amazing atmosphere, comfy and CLEAN air conditioned rooms. The lobby has a cafe with delicious coffee and teas for a low price, a massive shelf of meticulously organized manga (with English options), and a vintage Nintendo Famicom and SNES.
The location is convenient, not too far from anything you’d want to see in Kyoto but not by noisy Main Streets, so don’t be fooled by the side road location. 20 minute walk and train journey to Fushimi Inari and Kiyomizu Dera, and a wide selection of restaurants cafes and convenience stores in walking distance.
The staff here are wonderful, and they are friendly and helpful in the way one would be inviting someone into their own home. Their personal touches are everywhere from the manga organization to air fresheners in the elevator to custom made travel guides (including halal restaurants nearby for Muslim travelers).
I don’t believe I’ll ever be staying anywhere else in Kyoto if we ever return. If I could rate 6...

Negative aspect: no breakfast provided. Even if some options are available at less than 500...
