Le Bac à Sable — Restaurant in Kyoto

I was excited to try this spot but my excitement quickly turned into disgust.

After selecting an assortment of baked goods and sitting down to enjoy them, a large bird that looked like crow or raven flew into the store. The crow proceeded to walk across all of the breads on the counter and start picking at them.

We looked over to the staff to alert them, but they just watched in amusement as if this was a common occurrence. Because they would not do anything about it, my friend stood up to go over and scare away the bird.

They did not replace any of the baked goods that had been touched by the bird, which was disturbing considering that we were starting to believe this happened regularly. This left me wondering if the breads I was eating had already been touched by this bird? It made me feel sick.

I understand that these things happen, but it was the lack of reaction from the staff and the fact that they did not replace the breads that made...

Absolutely love this place. It is rustic furniture with pop music playing is fun and energetic. There are little kokeshi on the shelves to enjoy your breakfast with you. All the food and bread has a good flavor balance.

I ate breakfast here, the A set with the bread assortment and got an omelette on the side. Toasting the breads in the toaster on the counter brought out the flavors really well. I will always order the omelette because the chef makes it creamy on the inside and gives it the right amount of seasoning to make it fragrant and delicious.

My boyfriend got a pear juice and a chicken sandwich and he said it reminded him being in France on holiday.

Nice bakery with sweet and savory tarts Lovely little bakery with a nice selection of baked goods. I originally went for a sweet tart but noticed they also have savory options, which could make for a quick and tasty lunch.

I tried the banana chocolate tart and the apple tart — both were good, but I personally preferred the apple tart. I was hoping they’d warm them up, but since I didn’t ask, they were served at room temperature. Still, very tasty!
