We stayed at M's Inn for three nights in early June. Overall we were very happy. We paid c 50 Gbp per night for a room with a double bed. However, it also had small lounge area with TV, table and floor seating; and a bathroom with separate bathing room and room with a Japanese electric toilet as well as a washing machine; and a quite large entry way/kitchenette with a closet and ample storage for luggage so it doesn't get in your way while you are in the room. The room had free WiFi, and toiletries (including hair brush, toothbrush, shaving razor, clothes washing detergent) for guests. There were also pajamas provided. The space and kitchenette were the main draws for us, but the comfy bed and these added amenities really made the stay amazing.||There are a couple of small points that could have been better. It did not appear there were any ironing facilities, and while there was a fridge, microwave and kitchen sink in the kitchenette space, there were no plates, cutlery or washing up liquid/sponge. This felt odd given how otherwise well kitted out the place was. ||The main thing to be aware of is that the front desk is not staffed - check in and check out is done through a tablet in the lobby. When the room is ready for you at check in, you get an email with the access code to the lobby. This worked well for us because we had a Japanese sim card, and the technology and insructions were seamless and well explained. But could be a challenge if you have limited email acess. Also, note that you cannot store luggage before or after your stay, which means you can't use the yamato luggage delivery service.||This is presumably why the place can be such great value - we certainly thought it was a sacrifice well worth making for the great stay, but it obviously would depend on particular...

Read moreCheap and affordable 2 star hotel in Higashiyama. The check in process is fully automated. Check in time was 3pm but we arrived earlier at 2.10pm and really wanted to use a toilet badly. But when we called the intercomm (because even the main door needs password which is only available when we receive email notification for check-in), we were told there was no toilet on the ground floor so we had to try our luck elsewhere. Terribly tired, we decided to wait outside the hotel and at 2.45pm, were given the passwords to do our check-in. When we went to our room, it was almost done with cleaning but we were really urgent so we dashed for the toilet first.
Room amenities were good - sufficient toiletries, a small kitchenette area and a washer + dryer. If we need any urgent help, we can actually go to the desk at the lobby then use the phone and call and someone will come out to assist and they finish work at 8pm. During the 3rd day of stay, we were given more toiletries wrapped in a towel, outside our room. We can request for housekeeping after 2nd night of stay but we chose not to. We were given a room on 4th floor which is the highest but because it faced the carpark, there were noises from time to time and the view wasn't good so we seldom opened our windows. And we could hear some talking downstairs which was likely other guests on the 3rd level. 3-5mins walk down the streets, are some restaurants but waking down further to Gion area would see more choices and a...
