Please read my review so you book a different place for more a enjoyable experience. I am a respectful appreciative traveller but there are a lot of things that were just not right.
It is very strict with a lot of rules. Upon arrival you get a full page of things to do and not to do. You are told STRICTLY the key is very valuable and you will be charged (100$) if you dare to lose it! There is no phone in the room in case if any request or emergency.
The FEMALE staff were absolutely lovely. The men were snobbish and rude.
The location is very awkward. Kyoto is reasonably walkable but this hotel is not near a lot of good things, and no nice little restaurants around at all.
It was very clean. The bathtub in the room smells lovely, wooden, but the bathroom is ok, and there are very small amenities only.
The bed is large and nice linen, but only 1 very hard pillow and the blanket is very heavy. It wasn't a very usable room. The window was totally "fog style" so you can't see out at all, and its so claustrophobic.
The walls are thin and the doors are very heavy so you can hear them bang shut all the night and morning!
The breakfast included is very meticulous and beautifully served, but so odd and not my choice. There are no snacks or anything later in the day, just tea.
There is an atmosphere of strictness in my opinion that did not suit me. It was quite nice-looking but so fussy.
It was just not to my taste. I would choose somewhere else- more cosy and with more kyoto...
Read moreOverall, I was quite satisfied with this hotel. The room was comfortable, clean, and nicely designed. However, to be honest, it was a bit too small for two people with large suitcases — though this is quite common for hotels in Japan, so I wouldn’t consider it a major drawback.
The location was also good — about a 7–10 minute walk to the nearest metro station. The neighborhood itself was quiet, cozy, and within walking distance to everything we needed.
The service was great and the staff were friendly. The only real disappointment for us was the breakfast. We were served a large slice of bread with a thin layer of ketchup, some cheese, and a few tiny pieces of sausage. It was quite greasy and heavy for breakfast, and not at all in the Japanese style.
Overall, I’d rate our stay...
Read moreWe have stayed in a few different hotels and ryokans during our stay in Japan and this hotel is our favourite. Out of the hustle and bustle of busy Kyoto close to the Gion area where there are quaint little alleys and streets. Most things were in walking distance such as the Nishiki market and the large Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Rooms were quite spacious, lovely bath area (even though small) and sliding door that opens up to a balcony area which was great for leaving our shoes. My only negative is we thought the pillows were too hard but other than that the staff were always so attentive, breakfast was more than enough and they even provide a nightly happy hour....
