We went to Hannari-tei to try out something different before heading back to Osaka. The place was very convenient as it was located directly across Kyoto station which makes catching the last train much less of a hassle if you’re up for a fun longer drinking time with your friends.
As soon as we got to the restaurant, the staff were very quick to attend to us and escort us to our table. Unlike other regular izakayas, Hannari-tei has a nice ambience. The place was well-kept and has a very fancy vibe to it - very minimalist and not as loud as your usual Izakaya. If you happen to be seated by the window you can even have a nice view of the station from the 6th floor. Once we were seated the staff was nice enough to to explain to us how to order and what the specialties were. You have the option to call on the servers to order your food or do it via your mobile phone through a QR code. We just wished that the place would also somehow offer wifi connection as it would greatly help those who might be travelling and have limited connectivity.
The menu is not as overwhelming as I would’ve expected, instead the food selection was very easy to choose from. The menu allows you to sample some of Kyoto’s traditional food and standard izakaya dishes. Aside from from beers and cocktails they also offer some fine Japanese sake selections. From the salad that has a surprising wasabi dressing to the sashimi that melts in your mouth, the food just keeps on getting surprisingly delicious. As someone who loves soba, their hegi soba, made the whole Japanese dining eperience complete for me. The overall experiece was made great by the staff’s hospitality and and the quality of food and service we had. I highly recommend the place if you ever...
Read moreIt was my first time to this izakaya restaurant and I was very pleased with it. It was quite easy to find. Located in the J's building right across from Kyoto station. The decor of the place was clean and beautiful. It had a modern vibe with some traditional elements like the tatami floor seating.
There was a large selection of foods and drinks. It seemed to specialize in 日本酒 so I tried 2 types. The pricing system was a bit confusing at first because it seemed like the price displayed was for an entire bottle but it was actually just for the serving amount.
The food was very delicious. I was able to try tofu with meat, soba, hotpot, and more. The highlight for me was the seared steak. It was very tender and juicy. I couldn't get enough of it. I think it is a good place for people who are visiting Japan for the first time. They can try many types of dishes in one place, along with a variety of drinks.
The ordering system was also very simple. Just scan the QR code and order directly on the site. There was English and Japanese translations. Since it is a new place, I assume that more languages will be localized for the app later.
Finally the service was quick and efficient. Everyone was pleasant and worked with a smile. I highly recommend this place to anyone who would like to experience a variety of delicious...
Read moreI was with some classmates at a restaurant that a friend called me about. There were 10 of us, so one of us reserved a table. The restaurant is on the fourth floor, just behind Kyoto Station. The tables are separate, which is typical in Japan. This allows for easy communication and eating without disturbing or being disturbed by other guests. The waitress was very friendly and able to accommodate our request for two tables. As is often the case in Japan, you can order with your phone, which makes it simple to search for the menu and order what you want. It also allows you to keep track of your spending. A regular menu was also provided at the table. The food took a little longer to arrive than we expected, but it was fine. The restaurant was busy. The meal was fantastic and delicious. The restaurant has a great selection of sake and wine. The sake selection is especially impressive. You can order individual glasses or bottles. It was perfect for a big group like us. The soba noodles were really delicious. The duck was of excellent quality and very good. With the right sake and wonderful duck, it was the perfect dinner. We really enjoyed this wonderful meal. I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. It's not cheap, but the quality of the food easily justifies it. It was a wonderful evening with an...
