3 - Hotel Asakusa KANNONURA — Hotel in Tokyo

Some of the reviewers mentioning the on-site staff might be confusing this with a different hotel, because there are no on-site staff at this hotel! This hotel is more like an airbnb. Check-in is done through an ipad at the entrance, and they send you a code to your phone to unlock your room. This took a while for us because of some technical difficulties, and I can see this being a very frustrating element for older customers or people who don't have a travel sim card in their phones as you would need to receive an email on your phone.

I booked a double room with my partner, and the room was quite a bit smaller than the pictures make it seem. The pillows were absolutely wafer thin and extremely uncomfortable for us so we bought our own pillows from a nearby home goods store. The duvet and mattress was also not of the best quality. Our room was also exceptionally dusty at all times, and the cups they provided for us was covered in dust when we first arrived.

There is a communal kitchen on the ground floor which we used a couple of times. It is convenient but small, so it's quite awkward when somebody else is using the kitchen. But that's a given.

The location is good but definitely NOT the best!! If you want to be close to the heart of Asakusa, there are SO many other hotels that are just as cheap, and are much closer to the subway!! AND these hotels have on-site staff and daily room cleanings! This hotel is technically within walking distance to Sensoji and Asakusa's tourist spots but it is still a 10 to 15 minute walk from Asakusa station ... you might think that's not much but it definitely adds up after days of walking around Tokyo everyday!!

So I would recommend not staying here unless they have a deal going on their website that gives you a huge discount. We stayed here when it was extremely cheap (like 40% off), and despite its flaws, the fact that we were able to get a room in central Tokyo with a double bed at the price we got was such a steal! So for us it was a really good deal. But this hotel is sort of like an airbnb, or a fancy hostel. So if you're looking for a better hotel in the same area, you won't have a hard time...

Wow, this hotel was the first place I stayed during my visit to Japan and what a way to start. Asakusa is definitely a very nice area to start, not so packed with tourists and this hotels was great. There is no reception, but the staff, the girls there used a translator to explain everything and where the extra towels were and so on. They were very kind. The room was nice, with a balcony with a view to the different small buildings of the area, you could almost feel you were a character in a realistic anime. The A/C worked perfectly, the beds were good, not the best, but definitely good. There was a kitchen to use, very convenient if you bring a child. And the bathroom... oh my god! First time I met with a japanese WC. It's fantastic, the WC takes back to your baby times when your mother lovingly wiped your baby butt. The WC room is painted in black and a single yellow and warm light shines upon you when you are pooping, and being all in black and by yourself, you cannot help it but to think in Tanizaki and in praise of Shadows. i LOVED my stay here. I traveled here with a few friends for a vacation all together. This hotel was nothing short of amazing for our time in Tokyo.

The rooms were beautiful and accommodated to all of our needs. It had all the essentials that you can ask for in a hotel. Spacious areas in the rooms, VERY clean which is a must for me at hotels, comfortable beds and it came with a balcony.

The staff at the hotel were extremely polite and helpful. They helped us find great food and entertainment around the neighborhood. Their room service menu was exquisite. Something that I highly look forward to next time I'm back
