Tenten house in asakusa was definitely the best hostel I have ever been to, in my entire life. Shinji, the receptionist, best receptionist in all of japan. Probably of the world. Wonderful human being, probably not even one but that’s a secret, Told me the history about the tengus. I used to like the tengu, nice aesthetic, cool nose. Now it is my personality. I am inextricably connected to these creatures of japanese folklore, and can only thank Shinji for showing me the light. Of course the hostel itself is absolutely incredible. Beds are comfortable and are each in like a box (reminiscent of a capsule hotel, but not exactly a capsule hotel). Which i mean is probably the standard in japan but like when i was in albania you don’t have those luxuries so you have to attempt to fall asleep while listening to the serenade of snoring done by the albanians, lovely people but they snore over 100,000 decibels. In tenten guesthouse, even if every bed had an albanian i wouldn’t be able to hear them, because of the absolutely genius capsule hotel-esque design (probably built by shinji himself, but i wouldn’t want to take the credit away from whoever else built it) Everything was very clean, price is nice and the top floor is a place where you can grow your circle, tap into the perhaps the general populous of japan, always a treat. I didn’t take advantage of that due to my insufferable personality and insane lack of sleep, making me unable to formulate basic cohesive sentences, best i could manage was “俺はクソ野郎ユダヤ人です” maybe next time when my grasp on this language is better i can finally integrate into japanese society perfectly, however until then you best bet your sweet bippy I’ll be residing in this lovely estate. Ps: Tengoku means heaven in japanese , this place is called tenten…. Ill let you decide what this...
Read moreThis affordable Guesthouse is in one of the best locations that one could hope for. It is perhaps 30 meters from Sensōji temple, one of Tokyo's most important areas, and the pagoda and main temple buildings are easily visible from the top floor shared lounge area. See photo! Not only that, but the local area of Asakusa, by the Sumida River, is a beautiful downtown area with lively bars, delicious restaurants and many other facilities (public bath houses aren't too far away).TenTen staff have always been friendly to me whenever I have a question or want a recommendation, and the rooms are generally clean and comfortable. Perhaps the best thing about this guesthouse is the communal atmosphere, with many backpackers from around the world - some staying for a few nights and some staying for weeks at a time, using the great location and facilities of this Guesthouse as a base of their travels. I've made a few good friends here during my stay. There are two lounge areas which are great for kicking back and relaxing, but for those introverts who wish to simply have a quiet stay, this too...
Read moreThe price is reasonable for Tokyo, but you do get what you pay for. Stayed in a private room on 3rd floor. The room was dark with terrible ventilation. You had to pay to rent the towels, something we haven't experienced anywhere else in Japan. The towels drying in the room caused dampness and a smell. There was passive aggressive signs all around the place with "rules" should have just given a sheet at check in rather than this. The lift was quite slow so we went to use the fire exit stairs but couldn't as the bottom entry door to the first door was locked so would hate to think what would happen if there was a fire....
