Villa Meuang Lao — Hotel in Luang Prabang

I booked this hotel for 5 nights based on the excellent reviews here on Trip Advisor. I booked thru Agoda. I am a well seasoned traveler and have never experienced such poor service in the entirety of my 30+ years traveling around the world. ||During my stay, the hotel was being run by a couple with 3 young children. The husband leaves to work somewhere else so he is gone all day leaving her to run the entire hotel with the 3 children basically running around doing whatever they want. When I arrived, two of the children were behind the desk watching youtube and they basically ignored me. When their mother finally came forth, she was fairly rude and did not communicate well. The room itself had a comfortable bed and a good shower. That said, there are too many issues. When you flush the toilet, the pressure is so strong that the water comes out and wets your leg with whatever you put in there. :( This is disgusting. When you go to breakfast in the morning, they do not come to take your order, instead you have to find the chef and ask. Yet, when an asian couple would sit at the table, they would come out and take their order. Not sure why, but it is not right. The room cleaning was horrible. They put new towels and take the old ones and make the bed. They don't change the bedding even if you ask them too. Everyday I had to go and ask for soap, shampoo, toilet paper etc. When I would go and ask for these things, one of the girls got angry and stomped her feet to get go and get toilet paper. Several times, they would not even mop the bathroom floor leaving puddles from the shower. One of her children, about 3 years old, kept punching me in the legs. Even when she saw the child doing this, she did not really do anything. She seemed overwhelmed running the hotel with 3 children to take care of all day. I am putting the blame on management (which was not there and when I asked her to talk to the manager, she said not here and then would dissapear and ignore me). This same child also runs around with one of those suction cup guns that he loads and points right at your face, just a foot away. Very dangerous. This was my worst hotel stay every and when I tried to reach agoda to provide me a different room, they did not answer the email. I was afraid to call them and be on the line for 30 minutes from Laos as who knows how much this would cost and who knows who would ultimately pay for that phone call. I do not recommend anyone stay at this hotel until they address the...

I think it's between 3 to 4 (perhaps 3.5, but there's no 0.5 option for me.) ||The hotel is well located.

This hotel is in a really great location with the morning market just down the street, close the the shops and the river. The breakfast was cooked to order and served in the courtyard... lovely! Loved the standing clothes rack outside the wardrobe! Very much appreciated the extra shelf on the wall by the sink and the storage in the cabinet under the sink. We asked for extra pillows and they were brought quickly. Nice large TV hung high on the wall. The staff was very good and helped with suitcases, etc. and went out of the way to help us confirm the time we needed to be ready to leave for one of our tours. The only negative was that the guest house/hostel next door had some lively guests that were sometimes a bit too loud. Generally they quieted down before it got TOO late.
