Location OK, room was unacceptable This is the worst hotel room I have been to and I have already given feedback to the hotel and to the agency I booked with. I arrived on 15 of July and the communal area is very smart and clean. The room I was given 504, a single room was unacceptable and I spent 10 nights of hell. The weather was hot in Riga but the room was extremely hot and not because of the weather but because of the corner of the decaying building and all the hot and noisy pipes, which is the view from several rooms. The average temperature was 35 + 24 hours a day, the fan provided was useless and noisy. I believe that the 4 stars given to this 1 star hotel on my opinion is not because of the majority of the rooms but because of the ones they show on the pictures. I am going to make huge amounts of complaints, I ended going to the chemist in Riga because the heat caused me vomiting, diarrhea...I couldn't relax or sit even for 5 minutes in the room. It is disgusting. Its not fare and it has ruined my holiday. No doubt that I will provide feed back wherever...
Read moreHad a great stay at Metropole. Beautifully decorated hotel and rooms, very original. Comfortable bed and desk well situated to get work done if you need to (great wifi too). I had a slightly larger room with a view to the back of the hotel (per my request), it was very quiet. Impressive bathroom with heated floors and spacious shelves for all your beauty products. AC worked well and was very quiet in my room. This is an old building, so it’s better insulated against cold/heat and is more comfortable than some modern hotel buildings.
Breakfast was highlight of the day. In other hotels, the staff barely acknowledges anyone and just moves around looking like they hate their job. But not here. All breakfast staff was very kind and helpful. They speak English very well and I saw many warm interactions with the guests: greeting, answering questions, etc. Great food presentation, really makes you feel like in a high-end restaurant. If I happen to be in Riga again, I’d...
Read moreThe hotel is in a great location if arriving by train. Some reviews referred to it being noisy but I was on the fifth floor with an inner court view which was very quiet. A warm welcome at reception and my room was ready at 11 am, which was a nice bonus. The room was spacious and had all the facilities required; mini bar, safe, tv, kettle. Beware there was no price list for the mini bar apart from a QR code which I could not read. Breakfast was served in the restaurant which provided a lovely calm atmosphere to start the day. There was an abundance of foods to accommodate everyone's tastes including the bonus of a glass of Prosecco. It also had coffee machines that produced a proper sized cup of coffee. For me the only negative of this hotel was the 50 euros charged for a personal transfer to the airport. In all , this was a superb base close to shopsm, restaurants and bars in addition to many of the sites...
