Horrendous service coupled with limited choices.
We actually called ahead to check if the full menu was available as we wanted to eat lunch here. We were assured that everything on the menu was available.
When we walked in, there were two staff standing around who didn’t greet us, but as we were going to sit down one of them simply exclaimed to “Order at counter”.
When ordering at the counter, the barista was rude and seemed to be annoyed when we tried to order the eggs Benedict, which were sold out. When we asked what was available, she nonchalantly exclaimed that the Benedict and beef was sold out with a sullen face.
We ordered a warm americano. Warm because I like to drink it straightaway and it’s usually too hot. It arrived scalding hot. We had already requested twice for it to be warm. It’s not hard to make a warm coffee. The coffee itself was burnt and tasted horrible.
The egg tart was decent but on the sweet side. It’s basically a standard egg tart with some mango put on top of it.
Green eggs on toast was pretty good but over-seasoned. The eggs were placed on the thinnest piece of toast ever. Definitely an Instagram-focussed dish with not much thought given to flavour or content.
Overall a disappointing experience with no much to show for it. +One star for the...

A hidden treasure nestled within the historic Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Cafe Mangga offers more than just a meal — it’s a full experience of taste, ambiance, and heartfelt hospitality.
We had the pleasure of enjoying: • Creamy Salted Egg Spaghetti – A rich, velvety dish that hits all the right notes of umami and comfort. Chef Arjune’s touch truly elevates it! • Crispy Chicken Drummets with garlic, honey & lemon glaze – Perfectly balanced, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. That glaze? Unforgettable. • Grilled Chicken Salad – Light, fresh, and flavour-packed. A refreshing contrast to the warm dishes. • Drinks were also on point — especially the lychee mocktail.
What made our visit even more special was the team behind it: 💛 Cafe Manager Shu made us feel so welcomed. Her warmth, professionalism, and genuine passion for the café are felt in every detail — from the service to the vibe. 👨🍳 Chef Arjune deserves major applause for crafting dishes that not only taste amazing but are beautifully presented.

Read moreWhat a quaint little discovery! Cafe Mangga is an oasis in a courtyard under a shady mango tree at the entrance to the Cheong Fatt Sze mansion. The food is a wonderful fusion of Spanish, French and Mediterranean with local delights, under the lead of Chefs Vasan and Arjune. Their inventions are out of this world! Try the Sambal Salmon Bakar which is a delicious mix of spicy, salty and sour. The Mangga Croque Madame offers an interesting twist with coconut bechamel, while the Green Eggs Benedict which were scrambled eggs and guacamole on sourdough with furikake topping is a revelation. The Nonya Laksa hit just the spot. Juices, spritzers and cocktails were all refreshingly cool on a hot afternoon. It was a shame that some of the desserts we wanted to try - such as the Pulut Hitam Creme Brulee - were not available when we were there, but I am sure the local twist to a classic would have elevated it to new heights. Service was a little slow as the cafe was busy when we arrived but the attentiveness and kindness of Shuhada and Kumar made up for it. We shall...
