This hotel may not be for you for several reasons. Let me start with the good points: 1. hotel is pretty central so many attractions in Georgetown were within walking distance, for instance Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, and a number of notable local food joints and cafes. The current blazing hot weather could well negate this perk however, as we found ourselves taxiing to many places to escape the intense heat and sun. 2. the staff were very helpful and obliging, I really have to commend the team here.
The hardware of the hotel however, falls short in many areas. The first thing I noticed was that the hotel values style or form over function. The entrance way is all loose pebbles and gravel, so really not the best kind of terrain for dragging your suitcase over. The reception area is a kind of booth, propped up on a ledge. To speak to the staff behind the counter you need to step up on an uneven rock ledge. Next, there is only one lift serving the entire property, and during my stay it broke down for an entire day. We had to carry our suitcases up 3 flights of stairs in a stuffy emergency staircase stairwell. So please think carefully if you are not mobile and energetic. The hotel is also more of a hostel with minimal room comforts - no kettle, no coffee and tea. The refrigerator is either communal, or you get a tiny one in your room with certain room categories. Water is dispensed via a machine in the communal area. The double bed is a Queen size and on the smaller side. Absolutely no sound insulation - we could hear neighbours talking, laughing, footsteps, doors being closed. God help you if you're a light sleeper and happen to stay one of the evenings when they have an event (which are very frequent) especially one with live music - the rooms are built around an airwell which carries up the accoustics of the open event area on the ground floor, so the sound travels exceptionally well with echoes to boot. Lastly, I know that the hotel is going for an unfinished, industrial vibe, but that's absolutely no reason to skimp on attention to hygiene and cleaning. On check in I noticed hairs from the previous occupant still clinging onto the bedspread, and on the cushions used to decorate the bed (see photos attached). The room floor was also dusty (my soles were grey after moving about the room), and I also stepped on something sharp in my room. I should add that at night there is also some noise coming from the club just down the street, although the hotel in front (The George) probably gets it much worse.
All in all, I think Mokozoyo is more a hostel than a hotel, and I would pay more next time for comfort and...
Read moreThe overall experience of our stay at this hotel can be described as barely satisfactory.
Upon entering the hotel, I couldn't help but notice its modern and fresh ambiance. The overall appearance of the establishment exuded a sense of newness, which translated into a feeling of cleanliness throughout. The hotel's design exudes a trendy and modern aesthetic, making it a perfect backdrop for capturing Instagram-worthy moments. Its industrial-inspired decor adds a unique and stylish touch to the overall ambiance. The hotel's focus on aesthetics is quite evident, as they seem to prioritize style over practicality. I distinctly recall coming across a pair of slippers adorned with the print "Stole from MKZY." During my stay at this exquisite hotel, I couldn't help but notice a small suggestion that could elevate the overall experience for guests. It would be a delightful touch if the hotel could consider offering complimentary refreshments such as coffee or tea in the rooms. This thoughtful addition would undoubtedly enhance the comfort and convenience of guests, allowing them to indulge in a warm beverage at their leisure. The hand wash provided by the hotel boasts delightful scents that we absolutely adore. The room walls in this hotel are quite thin, allowing for a less than ideal sleeping experience. The constant noise from all directions can be quite disruptive, making it difficult to get a good night's rest.
The services provided at this establishment can be best described as lacking professionalism. It appears that the staff consists of a group of young individuals who are in the early stages of their business venture. During my recent stay at this hotel, I had a unique experience that I must share. Upon my early arrival, I approached the reception desk with slight apprehension, fully aware that check-in was scheduled for 3 p.m. However, to my surprise, the receptionist handled the situation with exceptional grace and hospitality. The hotel staff should consider politely inquiring if there are any additional accommodations they can provide, or at the very least, communicate with the guest regarding the situation. This is done with the intention of avoiding any inconvenience to other guests and to ensure a smooth check-in process. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a rather chilly reception from the hotel staff. Their response was curt, informing me that check-in time was strictly at 3 p.m.
One of the highlights of this hotel is its prime location. Whether you're looking to explore nearby attractions or venture further out, everything is conveniently within walking distance or just a...
Read moreFrom what turned out to be an impressive 5/5 stars due to the service, prime location, cleanliness, fixtures, in the day; turns into an instant nightmare when the night comes everyday. I urge people to really reconsider staying here and read reviews carefully. This is the most unfiltered and unbiased review, and nothing against the hotel staff either because they have been amazing humans. I did a mistake by booking simply based on the overall ratings without diving in-depth to all reviews. In fact this 3/5 stars goes to the level of service I gotten from the staff and the architecture concept. If not it would have just been a 1/5.
While soundproofing or slamming of doors are a minor concern, opposite the hotel lies a bar (I shall not name them to give them free publicity here). They would host daily Karaoke and blasting of music with guests singing (badly…) and cheering would continue till 3-4am. The shop’s customers would also chat and laugh loudly by the roadside. Mind you; this is meant to be a hotel and not a motel yet my room turned into a karaoke studio in the middle of the night with their singing echoing and reverberating around the room till dawn. A trip eventually turned into consecutive sleepless nights. Made worse when I was down with fatigue and food poisoning one of the days.
Granted that particular nightlife establishment does not care about the surrounding, I’d expect the hotel to have taken some action because their business hours were supposed to end at 2am. My complaint isn’t even the only one; with many dated several months ago. I don’t know how and what could be done but necessary enforcement should have been done to have nightlife and accommodation to coexist together.
The price that us guests are paying a night are competitive pricing that higher end hotels are offering in this area but this could be worse than a typical hostel for sleep quality. Guests who paid extra for Superior Room unfortunately were the ones facing even nearer to that roadside bar. I’d say the reviews which were largely good were most definitely rooms located at the other side of the hotel.
Service wise, they were attended to promptly via chat. With each responses personally addressed to and not from some SOP template. Nothing to nitpick for them. Sadly, all the uncontrollable factors combined has made this trip an incredibly...
