The Jour’ney Hotel Penang is a complete nightmare. Was told ALL the guest rooms are out of electricity (meaning no light and air con) when I returned to the hotel on 21 June 2023. The restaurants nearby (as well as the hotel reception located on the ground floor) were completely fine with Air Con and light making me suspicious of their claims that it’s a national power company problem.||Anyway, the receptionist couldn’t tell us when the power failure can be fixed and we were encouraged to go out while they try to tackle the issue. All the guests had no choice but to comply and we were forced to look at other alternative options (as some rooms don’t even have windows).||When I eventually got back into the room, I called the reception to try and fix the shower, there was no English speaker and they sent a security guard who can’t speak English to my room to try fix the shower, bearing in mind I am a single female traveller and that was late at night!||Other than a penalty for checkout after 12pm, they charge a RM100 if you lose your key card (which won’t work the following day despite effort to reactivate that). Manager Kessie is extremely rude and offer no apologies when I complained at the counter about not being able to return to the hotel during the power outage and the key card failure in the morning of 22 June 2023. I didn’t tell her about the noise and the thin walls as I know she wouldn’t care.||I have travelled to Penang many times and never had I encountered a power failure. There are a lot of affordable hotel options around the area and I am taking the time to write the review urging you to stay away from the Journey Hotel because I don’t want you to risk ruining your...
Read moreA clean hotel. But terrible service.
When we checked into the room, we found that their Wi-Fi was not working on all our devices. We applied to the reception. They told us that the problem is in our phones, bc on their phones WiFi is working. It was very strange, because only on our macbooks and iPhones that Wi-Fi does not work. And the whole hotel and the guests have androids. Obviously, the problem is in THEIR network settings. And more specifically, in the router that distributes WiFi, and is not configured to connect to the iOS operating system. The manager told us that it was not her problem, but ours. I asked for a refund money and we're moving out. Since we came to Penang for 3 days to get a visa. And the Internet was necessary for us in the first of all. They refused to refund us, as we had already made a check-in and used the number.
Those who say that it was possible to buy a local SIM card with the Internet - I will answer right away: the cost of a SIM card with Internet and a hotspot is 100 ringgit. I'd rather add these 100 ringgit to the cost and rent a room with the best service. Which we basically did the next day. We moved to a merchant hotel, which is cheaper by 10 ringgit and 100% better in service.
But most of all in Journey, I was outraged by the behavior of the staff manager: kotra shouted into the phone to me that her Wi-Fi was working, so everything was fine. And to my arguments that my Wi-Fi does not work on two laptops and two phones, she replied that it was not...
Read moreI had a great stay at The Journey Hotel. The cleanliness of the hotel was impressive, and the staff were incredibly friendly throughout my visit. Location is perfect as well for those who want to explore Georgetown by foot. The room was exactly as described which was comfortable, well-maintained, and true to the photos. The only downside was that they didn’t provide any tissues apart from toilet paper, and each bed only came with two pillows, which may not be enough for those who prefer extra support. Overall, it was a pleasant and value-for-money experience. Would definitely consider...
