Hotel Regal Malaysia — Hotel in George Town

Checked in this hotel on Sunday evening. For people who complained this hotel is not 5-star, try stay at homestay 😱

Choose this hotel, due to they have their own parking compound. I don't want headache looking for parking lot when we're in business/touristy area where parking lot is limited.

Its location is nearby Chew Jetty, Blue Mansion, fantastic Tokyo Bistro, and many 5-star local eatery. Penang Street Art, must-see Beach Street Fire and Rescue Station (they have nice memorable art work). We walked with our bagpack, umbrella and water. Save time too.

Also, spotted the free-ride Rapid bus . So this area is somewhere along its bus route. CAT Line.

We stay in 5th floor. Got sea view. Got lift. The live karaoke was obvious in the night. Maybe not loud since we stay at the top level.

Standard Queen room, neat and clean although it look basic. 24m3 room size, it is spacious to put 4 big bagpack and there is still room moving around.

Comfortable bed for good sleep. Air ventilation is good. Bathroom is ok with heater. Water dispenser (hot & warm & cold) is outside. Room is equipped with cupboard & clothes hangers, hair dryer, 2 cups, a thermal jug (to keep hot water), shower gel, 2 bath towel. No coffee/tea maker. If I can remember more...

Will choose this hotel again when we come to Penang. Might plan to include Rapid bus adventure.

30/8/2025- Rooms was dust and musty smell. Booked deluxe room through agoda Rm124 per night and visited with kids. Rooms are not asper in picture. They are slightly smaller. Elderly people works there and they talk to you very kind. Location of the hotel is strategic what in the room: In built hair dryer-china made no complimentary coffee and tea. towel smells bad only soap dispenser for shower. only toilet roll in toilet bedsheet was with hair during check in only glass no mugs 2 plug points only no complimentary bottled water only hot / cold water thermos- all level has water dispenser free wifi- with no connectivity local tv channel with bad connectivity-lcd tv air conditioner hot and cold head shower under the bed full of hair and dust collected- wear slipper in the room toilet and bathroom has water stains and door has mold lighting in the room given eye pain limited car park first come first serve-10 parking lots without requesting for makeup room the housekeeping enters to do inspection and do some tidy up- something the hotel should avoid doing.yet they still do not clean the room properly curtain has bed bugs stains.

My experience at this hotel was very disappointing, mainly due to the poor service. Before checking in, I called the hotel to confirm my booking, but they never mentioned that a deposit was required—let alone that it could only be paid in cash. When I arrived for check-in, I was shocked to learn that they did not accept cards or e-wallets like TNG, which was extremely inconvenient.

To make matters worse, the receptionist, an elderly staff member, was unprofessional and argumentative. Instead of acknowledging their mistake for not informing guests in advance, he questioned why I, as a local tourist, did not carry cash. This was completely unacceptable and showed a lack of proper customer service.

As for the room, it was decent, but the toilet was not clean, which added to my disappointment. Overall, while the accommodation itself was okay, the terrible service left a very bad impression. I would not recommend this hotel to others unless they improve their communication and customer...
