We stayed here for 3 nights and had issues throughout our stay, from the moment we checked in.
Bed was really uncomfortable, very bad quality bed. We booked & paid for king bed, ended up getting 2 combined twin beds. The staff said that all their rooms except suite room come with combined twin beds. This is certainly cheating as the website clearly says "king bed". Because of the quality of bed and the hardness in the middle of the "king bed", we suffered from bad quality of sleeps.
Aircond was noisy and started leaking on our 2nd night. The Philippino lady at the reception - Mil, told us that there's nothing she can do as it's a Sunday (maintenance guy was off duty) & no other room available as the hotel was fully booked (which was not the case when we checked online). Really?
so finally the maintenance guy came when we were out. However to our surprise we realised something went missing from the room when we got back. Lucky not anything expensive but can't imagine if we had left anything valuable in the room?!
Service was terrible, especially with the Philippino lady. She was not trained, fake and very rude. When we approached the reception to ask/request for something, she had an attitude as if she was too busy to care & we were too much of a trouble. We requested for our room to be made when we left the room at 7am. When we came back at 11am, the room was still untouched. Forget any other request like late check out etc.
Other staffs were good, especially the chinese lady who was always smiling and very sincere.
Breakfast was average. Room was very small. Sound isolation was bad. Bathroom ventilation was bad. Water heater took forever to work (need to turn on the switch half hour before u use it but no one informed us). Pool was tiny like for kiddo. Lousy wifi (cant connect at all). Room amenities was bad. Gate closes at 12pm but no one informed us.
Hotel location was good in george town but many other better & cheaper options in the same area that you can choose from . Hence I wouldn't recommend paying this price just for the location but lousy service & facilities.
Overall experience was bad and the Philippino lady just made it much worse. We will never come back and will not recommended this...

I recently stayed at Yeng Keng Hotel for an impromptu 3D2N staycation in George Town, Penang, with my sister. Our main goal was to explore the local food scene, and this charming heritage hotel made the experience even more delightful.
Heritage Charm in Excellent Condition Yeng Keng Hotel lives up to its claims. It's a small yet tranquil and peaceful hotel despite being situated right on Chulia Street, one of the busiest areas. The heritage atmosphere is well-preserved, and the property is impeccably maintained.
Prime Location for Food Lovers The hotel is within walking distance of a variety of delicious restaurants and street food vendors. Even better, there are plenty of nearby pubs with live bands, perfect for winding down in the evening.
Exceptional Service The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay, always ready with a smile and eager to assist.
Great Security Measures As the hotel faces the bustling Chulia Street, the main entrance is secured with a metal gate, controlled by a friendly security guard. This added layer of security ensures that only guests can access the hotel, maintaining a peaceful environment, especially at night.
Breakfast Though our stay was short, the breakfast exceeded our expectations. We appreciated the focus on quality over quantity, and the sambal on the traditional banana leaf nasi lemak was a standout!
We only stayed for two nights, and honestly, we didn’t experience anything we disliked during our stay—it was a lovely, well-rounded experience
Overall, we were thrilled to have chosen this heritage boutique hotel over the usual 5-star international brands. Highly recommended, and I’m already planning...
Read moreWe are on a trip to penang and ipoh. Yeng keng is our 4th hotel and we put high expectation on it due to it's great review. Google review never failed me, well until now. The hotel is 2 storey building. They put us in room no 102. It right beside the hotel entrance. It has no view, small. We have tv channel problem and aircon problem in our first night.
The 2nd level is actually so beautiful. They put a lot of effort putting all the good and beautiful furniture up there. Too bad, we get a room in the first floor. All rooms are fully booked and we cannot change to another room neither upgrade it. There's nothing to enjoy on the first floor. Some plastic chairs...I don't fell like staying in a heritage building at all.
The room itself despite the size is quiet pretty. But again, they could put more effort on the mugs use. It's pretty basic white cup for the tea set. They use standard lipton tea.
the noise from people cleaning the room which positioned right on top of our room is so loud.
Bathroom is another dissapointment. It is so small! Too modern for the heritage theme they are selling us on. Even though they claim to use high quality products, but the presentation! Put every single thing in an individual plastic packaging and than just pile them all in a ceramic tray. Towels are not impressive either.
Service is excellent though. They help us resolve the tv channel and aircon problem until very late at night. It was new year eve and i felt...
