The Pokok - All Day Bar — Restaurant in George Town

We came in the early evening and the place wasn't populated yet. I found the place relaxing, adequate fans to keep the place breezy, and the music is unobtrusive (live band haven't started). It has a predominantly black and dark colour theme. Overlooking the road, I found the view calming and interesting.

The staffs are friendly and efficient. However through not their fault, my experience was pretty average. The beer that I ordered just wasn't cold enough. Neither the draught nor the bottled beer. I somehow cannot enjoy beers which doesn't reach a certain coldness.

I didn't order much, just a plate of fried calamari. Sadly I was disappointed. I found the batter a bit hard and unfortunately, one of the squid ring piece was discolored. Maybe not as fresh as I would've liked it too be.

In short, enjoyed the atmosphere. Friendly waiters. But beer needs to be much colder and food maybe need to...

I was really disappointed. This bar is overrated. My experience for this bar was really bad.

The waiters, waitresses and bartenders have no respect to their customers at all. I asked for one cup of warm water after I finished drinking my liqueur and they were like standing in front of the bar and watching TV, it's like none of their business! Later, the bartender served me one full cup of warm water and the waiter (guy with specs) told the bartender "next time don't pour so much water, half a cup will do", before passing me the water.

Excuse me? I am your customer and I did order a few drinks. All I wanted was just a cup of warm water, why are you being so stingy?????

I strongly discourage anyone who wants to visit this bar.They have poor customer service. There's no point ruining your day with this awful quality customer service.

I’ve been to The Pokok a few times because I like the music and outside sitting there. However one thing happened twice to me that made me decide to write this review.

The staffs are nice and responsible there except one young guy stuff. He’s quite good looking, fair skin. When we raised our hands and waved at him because we wanted to order others drink, he just raised his hand back with a cold arrogant look to us. I understand that he wanted to tell us to wait but he never comes back. He just showed rude attitude because we looked like Chinese or sth, and I’m not Chinese. But when he served Westerners, he always smiled, showed his friendly face. It’s super racist and his attitude to customers is unacceptable as his job is a waiter.
