Read moreThe hotel itself wasn’t the problem—the front desk staff were kind and tried to help when I raised concerns about dust in the room. The real issue was that the AC filter and vents had not been cleaned, which left the room extremely dusty. Since I have asthma, this became a serious problem as I was breathing in the dust, which made me short of breath and caused me to cough.
The front desk handled the situation appropriately, but as I was sitting in the lobby booking another hotel, the maintenance manager came down with the AC filter I had requested be cleaned the day before. For some reason, he accused me of tampering with the inside of AC unit—which I did not do because I certainly wouldn’t risk making the room (and my belongings) even more dusty.
Rather than addressing the cleanliness issue, the maintenance manager seemed embarrassed by the state of the unit and became defensive. He even told me I needed to “respect his country” and claimed I just wanted a refund and to complain. This was after I had already checked out and was simply waiting in the lobby. Instead of respecting a guest who paid to stay at the property, he persisted in confronting me despite my repeated requests for him to leave me alone.
My complaint was valid: the room was constantly dusty, with fine particles covering everything and making it difficult to breathe. Rather than properly servicing the HVAC system—vacuuming the exhaust and intake—his team only rinsed the filter and replaced it, which did nothing to resolve the issue.
A solution to this issue would be using the square filters and installing them inside of the vent itself along with the additional filter he cleaned. The fact that the maintenance manager accused me of something without any proof or verifying anything himself is something I felt was wrong and I then called the police to have them come to the property because under Penal Code amendments (Sections 507B, 507C) for general bullying and harassment, and the established Section 509 of the Penal Code for offenses intended to insult modesty through words...
