Cameron Highlands Gem — With Honest Ownership That’s Rare to Find! Okay, confession first: I don’t usually write reviews, and when I do, I tend to go all in (so forgive the length—but this place deserves it). I first found Hikers Sleep Port after a bad experience at another hostel in Malaysia that didn’t even have lockers. I was looking for a safer vibe, and this one stood out—plus, the ratings were solid. And wow, what a difference! Locker was there (though I didn’t even use it because I felt safe). The hostel has clear “no non-guest” policies and keycard-only entry. Everything’s no-shoes-inside with beautiful wooden floors and tidy shoe racks. Felt like home from the moment I stepped in. Now, here’s where I’ll pause and say—I saw some recent reviews here about bed bugs in the tents. I hadn’t read these earlier, but seeing them now, I actually respect the owners even more. When I arrived, they were redoing the whole tent area, and I didn’t think much of it. But now I realize—they were already taking action. That’s rare. A lot of places try to hide or delay when issues like this happen. Not here. Props to the owner for being upfront and proactive. Back to my stay—every part of this hostel feels intentionally designed. Kazza at reception gave great hiking tips and local insights. You can also book tours directly here, saving time and avoiding overpriced agencies in town. Their common area? Just wow. Cozy window seats, filtered drinking water straight from the tap, proper dish soap dispenser (small thing, but so smart), and a lovely book collection—I picked up a Malaysian history book and enjoyed it while watching the rain outside. Bathrooms? Spotless. Hot water worked like a charm. Toilet paper and Asian-style spray, of course. There’s a designated smoking area that’s so clean it felt more like a quiet garden spot. The dorm mattresses (not bunks) were surprisingly comfy—two pillows, great blankets. I’ve slept in hostels all over, and this setup beat a lot of the “fancy” ones in bigger cities. Honestly, it felt like a real bed in a private room. Oh, and light breakfast in the morning? Another win. Overall—yes, the tent situation clearly had issues recently. But from what I experienced and what I saw being actively handled, I trust this place is in good hands. Owners clearly care. If you’re coming to Cameron and want a thoughtful, soulful, hiker-friendly stay—this one still earns a big yes from me. Thanks Hikers Sleep Port team. I’ll be back 🌿

The hostel was a nice stay, but the dorms are big. We had a tent in room with like 15 other tents, some of them for two people. It's alright if you have nice and considerate people, but in our first night there where two Malaysian guys talking loudly, listening to tik tok and leaving the light on. They didn't even stop or were less noisy when we asked them nicely to turn it down. They also set an alarm at 6 am and didn't turn it off for 30min. It's not the hostels fault but it was still super annoying and that's why we didn't have a good sleep the first night. Also the hostel is next to the main street which is noisy all day and all night long. You will definitely need oropax here. The receptionist is really nice and had a few good tips for dinner and hiking, he even booked a tour for us. There was bread and jam for breakfast and a nice common room to socialise with people, they even have instruments you can use. It was not super clean but for two days manageable. I mean, you get what you pay for.

Is there a better hostel for outdoor people or anyone who just enjoys to connect with others and have a nice, relaxing stay? We went there and immediately felt welcome. Don’t expect party or sleep in days, but get ready for the best time ever. The atmosphere is very friendly and happy. Though there is not a lot of space, a family like living comes up and you instantly know every person in this hostel, chat or even enjoy making Musik together in the evening. There is drinking water, coffee, tea and hot chocolate provided all day (and night). Good hiking recommendations, good information about dinner places... after two nights staying there, I have plenty new friends, maybe the best breakfast in my life and shared an evening with stories to remember. Thanks again Marina for creating such an amazing place for travelers. PS: you might also enjoy playing with awesome funny kids👍

We had an absolutely lovely time at this hostel, to the point where I am almost not looking forward to moving on with our holiday this afternoon. The owner gave birth this week, giving the care of the hostel to her friend Hafiq, who has been an absolute delight and a highlight of our trip.

The hostel is adorable and very cosy, with multiple floors and sleeping arrangements you can have your pick. We chose the indoor wooden teepees which were comfortable, provided privacy and just generally felt adorable. There are also shared dorms on multiple levels. Showers, toilets and bathrooms are kept clean and the shared lounge area provides a nice area to mingle with other guests. Also, the WiFi is nice and fast which I always love to have.

There are numerous hikes in the area amongst the mountains which I absolutely adored - be prepared to get muddy if there has been rain (part of the fun)!

I would absolutely love to...
