Review is mostly on the way the resort lets the sales department dupe people into selling units and taking tours. The resort itself is beyond beautiful and clean. We were lied to in the beginning but once our review was seen the resort apologized for the lies. We purchased a one year on, one year off contract for 50 years, totaling 25 weeks with Grand Solmar Lands end in November of 2020. We never stayed here but the tour of the grounds was so impressive that we purchased.
Day 1 We arrived to the resort a bit before 2 and checked but they advised that our room will be available at 3. We said ok and we’re immediately then approached by someone in their lobby (Natalie) stating that they are our contact for the rest of the trip as a concierge person. We were thinking that’s awesome, we had time to kill and were eager to start planning our trip. We told her the activities that we wanted to do and she wrote them all down and gave us prices for it all. She said that all activities in the resorts flier was 50% off because we were members of the resort. We were like “this is awesome”. She said that since we were new members that we had a complimentary breakfast at the other resort (Rancho). At this point we should have known it was too good to be true but this is our first time here so we didn’t know what to expect. The whole conversation took about 15-20 min.
3:10, I go to the front desk again and I’m told that our room still isn’t ready and that people don’t normally get rooms till 4pm. I say ok and I take my family over to the sports bar to eat something.
4:00, my room is still not ready. The woman at the desk advised that checkins have been higher than normal and rooms aren’t ready(keep in mind that I was there before a lot of the other residents. It was empty when I arrived and by 4pm, the line was loooonggg. I even overheard people saying that they were going up to their rooms now). I advised that I had been waiting since 2 then she told someone else my situation and they miraculously had my room ready.
Finally in our room, it’s beautiful, my kids are amazed. They love it. I finally go sit down in peace knowing that my kids can’t keep running around everywhere bothering people and running out of my sight. My husband walks to the kitchen to check it out and he notices that our fridge wasn’t pre-stocked. I paid in advance to have the certain things in the fridge so we didn’t have to leave the room on the first night. We knew we would be tired. I called down to the concierge and they were able to get it situated and bring up our groceries. One thing they got wrong was that they provided almond milk instead of soy milk. (My youngest has a milk allergy) no problem though, at that point we were done.(edit to add: correct milk was brought up after review)
Day 3 We head down to meet the 10:30am transportation to go to the Rancho resort for the complimentary breakfast. Still at the Lands end Resort we get familiar feelings of a sneaky salesman pitch. We ask the woman behind the desk to confirm that we weren’t attending another sales pitch and she confirmed that it was just a breakfast and an informational on what’s new. Boy did she lie. We arrive at rancho and they gave us the full on sales pitch. Tried getting us to buy there too and even pay triple what we originally paid and for a smaller room. Haha. We politely turned down the sale and went on to enjoy the facility as it is included in the package that we originally paid for. Rancho has a lot of building to do but it is beautiful indeed. The positioning of the resort is harsh though. It’s ridiculously windy, making it hard to enjoy the water. As soon as you get out of the water, the wind makes you incredibly cold.
Day 4 We go to the concierge to try and book our visits. Turns out, Natalie lied about the whole pricing structure. We ended up having to go to the promotions office and talked to them about everything that happened. They worked with us and since we did go to the sales pitch, we qualified for...
Read moreThis was my 7th time at Grand Solmar at Land's End. You cannot get a better location than this resort. It's the last resort on the pacific side closest to the famous cabo arch. Stunning views of the sunrise over mt solmar and sunsets over pedregal. Previous years this would get 5 stars on service and there are some gems of employees still there. My sister in law is an owner and have been 10 times. The bell hop crew runs a really tight ship helmed by Manny. He recognizes us every year and takes care of everything from getting our luggage and groceries to the room and back down at check out to getting us a cab at a moments notice. Hes got plenty of recommendations that are excellent 5 stars for him and his crew. Now come the down. GSLE used to have the best cabana manager in the business. Juan was incredibly personal and attentive. He could anticipate our needs before we knew we had them. Truly a loss. The new group isn't bad dont get me wrong but the experience will never be the same. We dont rent cabanas as often as we did in the past as that level of service just isn't there and for a lot less money you can get down to the pool earlier and get spots next to the cabana and get the same amount of service as everyone less. The rooms have wear showing but nothing alarming or detrimental to your stay. Food at the resort has changed much but how they are presented has. Some cost saving measure can be notices. The all you can eat taco night 3 years ago was always busy and you were handed a list and you picked what you wanted and they were made and brought to your table. 2 years ago you had to order them in flights of three predetermined selections. We had a group of 45 last year for our rehearsal dinner so its not fair to compare there but there were very few people compared to previous years. This year. It was build your own buffet style. And at 630pm there were only 4 seatings and we saw only 2 more come while we were there. Still great but we found ourselves in town searching for better service and tacos which isn't hard to find. The in villa dinning is average. The offerings have become pretty stale after all the years but thats not why you are in cabo either so it does the trick when needed. Best item in our opinion at the Baja style shrimp tacos which it seems you can only order at the pool. The sunset pool claims to have service until 6pm but there is one server and while we were at the pool late (445p) he didn't not engages us at all and at 530pm when we flagged him down he said no he's going home. The main pool bar we were told was open until 8pm but we were told St 630 that we were only going to be able to order one round. And that they were closed. Both the main pool and the sunrise pool used to be a party until early evening and now they kinda die down earlier than they used to. Lots of money just being left on the table. Best drink is a cabo vice but best to get the doubles during golden hours. The spa services have skyrocketed in price and has resulted in very few bookings. A basic 90 minute used to be around 150 and was now 350! Hard to get people to spend 200 more dollars when nothing else has changed and they used to spend less. We usually go during spring break but its becoming nearly impossible to book the timeshare room as they are over sold. And if you dont get your room you have to downgrade and they will not upgrade you if a better room is available they would rather leave it empty than drive satisfaction and there's not opportunity to pay a small portion of the difference to upgrade if one is available. The squeeze on owners is apparent. It used to be cheaper to lock in a week than the have a flex week. With spring break never being on the same week its not possible. Now that they have over sold the presidential suite, the owners meeting pitchbis to pay even more to lock in your week which again isn't feasible. Props to Manny and his crew....
Read moreMy husband and I just spent a week at Grand Solmar, Land's End in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We were so impressed and so very, very happy that this is the resort we stayed at our first time in Cabo. Our stay at Grand Solmar Land’s End was way above our expectations and firmly surpassed our hopes. To tell the end at the beginning, we loved it so much that it will be a repeat experience, as we decided to purchase into the timeshare while we were there. Never ever having been the "time share type people", this decision floored both of us! My husband worked in time share industry for many years, thus well knows the in's and out's of it, but we were both so taken with the pretty much perfect stay and the flexible time share program offered (thank you, Dave). They did not high pressure sell us...in fact we probably slipped through the cracks, as they never approached us...rather on our second to last day, we sought them out. Having spoken with several time-share couples over the previous days at the pool, coupled with our own experience during the week, we were certain that a time share at Grand Solmar was something we wanted to consider. ||That said, whether you opt to do a time share or just stay there, Grand Solmar Land's End was a best of everything. First, the staff and the service was so top notch, and that more than anything makes us want to come back. Incredibly friendly and helpful people at every single turn, from front desk (Maya and Katharine), to housekeeping (thank you, Diana), to restaurant wait staff (thank you, Elizabeth), to pool concierge (thank you, Aban) and pool service (thank you, Juan). These people are absolute stars and I hope the company rewards them well, as they were stand outs! We look forward to seeing them again soon.||The next thing that captivated us was the beautiful architecture, landscaping and furnishings. Wow! Most often when I arrive some new hotel/resort, I think "Oh, this is lovely" and then through the next few days I start to see that the initial impression giving way to noticing flaws and lack of design depth. Not the case with Grand Solmar...every day, multiple times, I saw details that I hadn't noticed the day before. The attention to the small, medium and big things made every day a rich experience in atmosphere. Even on the last day I was snapping photos of previously unnoticed things. From the intricate rockery to the lighting and beautiful plants on the pathways, to the thoughtful touches in the guest rooms, restaurants, and lobby…and all surrounded by the sound and vision of close ocean waves and the towering and majestic rock hills...just exquisite. ||We rented the premium cabana 3 times during the week, and it was worth every penny to sit in shade by the pool, with the ocean just beyond. We went into town several times (short walk, and even shorter cab ride)...town was fun for a change of pace, but mostly we loved being at the resort. ||Just a brilliant experience. Now back here at home, we still have ZERO buyer's remorse over our time share purchase, and are looking forward to heading back in January for another week of relaxation and fun. Thank you, Grand Solmar, and special thanks to the aforementioned staff, who were truly wonderful to us…you all reminded me throughout the week of how lovely human beings can be. I wish you and your families peace and blessings. We shall see you again soon. ||Your new friends,...
