We were originally due to stay here September 2023 but sadly the earthquake hit four days before our arrival and so we rebooked for this September. |I honestly cannot rate this accomodation, its staff, its owners and the food highly enough!!! ||Where to start?? The Road is pretty special… it’s not ultra luxe but it’s very very good, spacious and comfortable. Everything has been thought of and considered. Firstly they have their own app which is brilliant when you are planning your trip but also whilst you are there and you can’t use your mobile wifi then the app allows you to transverse the medina and can use their live map function… so when you get a bit lost (and you will) you can find your way back. ||The rooms - we had The Ebony room with two double beds, one in a mezannine plus a little lounge area and two bathrooms. This was perfect - spacious, well equipped, lovely showers and toiletries supplied plus amazing air conditioning (it was about 98 degrees outside!).||The breakfasts were delicious with fresh bread, fruits, eggs of your choice, pancakes, preserves and juices - served at your leisure wherever you wanted it! So we had it on the roof terrace early one morning when it was cool, and then as brunch another day after a morning out at Jardin Majorelle, and then once in the room. We also enjoyed dinner on our first night - lamb tagine, vegetable tagine, couscous, various salads and veg and tasty fresh breads. It was honestly some of the best food we had in Marrakech. ||Lounge areas, dip pool, are all|Lovely and cool and decorated well. ||Location - perfect as just a 2min walk to the souks, two great restaurants with roof tops just around the corner (Slimana & Le Foundouk) ||The best thing about this place tho?? Without a doubt it’s the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff - all of them but in particular Ali, & Khalid and the lady that does the spa& hammam!! ||The owners and their extended family were also here when we were staying and they couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. I think it’s fair to say they play quite a big part in the Anglo-Moroccan society in Marrakech and have been instrumental in bringing this amazing city to the cosmopolitan place it has become.||Ps There is an extremely outdated view and narrative surrounding this city about women being careful. To be completely honest we did not feel at all uncomfortable, We found people very welcoming and accepting and bartering in the souks was|Lots of fun. ||This was a really amazing base for a great trip to...
Read moreI booked this riad based on all the 5 star reviews and the pictures, tbh i was bit disappointed at the overall experience.| |Good: Travelled with 2 kids, they have a nice second floor in the same room with kids on their own beds and 2 full bathrooms. All riad employees are very humble and nice. Bathrooms are very clean and they provided a cab free of cost on my way back.||Not so good: Quite a few reasons:|1) All the employees at this riad are very nice , however riad is run by newbie's or folks with very less hotel management experience. First it took good 5 - 8 minutes for someone to open the door, my guess is the bell doesn't work. As soon as i walk in they used towels as mats to wipe off your feet !!!, big turn off for a hotel that i paid $150 a night.|2) Neither Ali or Khalid had any clue on background of the riad, I was interested to learn history about the riad, they just said it is 100 - 200 years old and that's about it. Didn't offer for a tour, i had to ask him and it was like a 30 sec tour.|3) Usually Riad's are in the older part of town, which tends to get sketchy past sunset, we barely escaped a close call in Fes and hence asked Ali if he can walk with us to closest restaurant ( less than 6 min walk), he just walked tell the end of the street and just gave some vague directions.|4) Communication amongst employees could definitely improve, first day of breakfast I asked for omlete ,waited for 15 mins, asked for an update and came to know the cooks were not aware of it, Khalid told them and then i waited for another 15 mins, and i was told they ran out of eggs and Khalid had to run down the store to get some eggs, i was already done by then. Second day had another similar issue with scheduling.|5) I realize this riad is old, the floor throughout riad looked very dirty , my best guess is they were never washed since riad is operational. My room has pieces of nail on the floor and a layer of dirt on the floor, i notified Ali and he said he will ask crew to do full deep cleaning, came next day still the same. I have been in another riad which was more than 300 years old and was top notch.||This riad is definitely NOT worth $150 a night, I wouldn't pay...
Read moreIt was fabulous we were met at the airport then met at the gate and we're taken to the star. The riad was absolutely beautiful. Abdou and his crew were fantastic and all the girls. We had 2 suites which were very comfortable spotlessly clean and equipped with everything that you needed. The breakfast was varied and delicious and fresh. We had house robes and slippers in the rooms as well. The beds were very comfy and clean sheets everyday. Shampoos creams in the bathrooms were beautiful. Excellent hammam on the roof top plus you can eat your meals which are freshly prepared for you and watch the sun go down. Guides were offered to us but we went alone where we saw the souks museums and plaza and got lost. But you don't have to be afraid as security there is 100% and we never felt at risk at any moment. The people were really friendly and were happy to help even giving us history about Marrakech. But back to the riad star. We can't wait to go back again. It was 100% in everything. You couldn't wish for a better place to stay. Also there is a pool there which my grandson thoroughly enjoyed yesterday the riad star is a haven of peace homeliness and friendship. Fabulous place highly recommended and a very big thanks to Abdou and Khalid...
