Yesterday we ate lunch at La Manounia, one course was excellent, one average and two poor: give yourselves a clap on the back Le Trou Au Mur you were better! For context we are good cooks we give 4/5 stars when the food is near or at Michelin star quality. This was a good buzzy restaurant. My wife's starter was very good. My starter the stuffed Calamari was like rubber: stuffing it with hot veg and covering it with an beautiful red sauce is probably going to over cook it. I'd keep to the Calamari and the excellent sauce but remove the stuffing. The specialty beef signature dish was dry but the meat was good and I ate it. The Pulled lamb burger was warm and and we both felt it tasted good however the presentation where it was compacted together made it heavy. Staff great and service very good. Very hard to find the restaurant in the shopping area but a staff member walked us out to show us the way home which was excellent. There was nothing wrong with the food that would merit sending it back (e.g. say undercooked chicken). We were happy to pay without complaint, as when you complain the restaurant gets a chance to correct something but the probability is the complaining and follow on sync with your partners meal can ruin the evening. Finally, the waiter recommend a Moroccan to the style we requested that was excellent as good as...
Read moreIf you are traveling through Marrakesh this should be on your short list of dinner restaurants. They were very welcoming and made it an easy experience, with everyone speaking multiple languages. But unlike many places we visited, Le Trou Au Mur seems to understand better why a tourist is visiting Marrakesh. We want to hear the language and feel like we have traveled, and the staff here more openly shared their culture than other places we visited. While I'm delighted so many speak English here, I'm still interested in understanding about the local language and culture. We were able to ask questions about dishes and we were given great background information and had our poor pronunciation gently corrected.
As to the food, easily the best presented and tasting dishes we've had. They were promptly prepared and delicious. The raspberry tea was also amazing.
To me, I got the impression the chef is or was trained internationally, and is using that experience to curate a wonderful experience at this restaurant. If you're wondering where to get GOOD food in Marrakesh, give them a shot, you won't regret it.
As to price, we split a half a bottle of wine with another party, got a tea and two large entrees for 57 USD on my...
Read moreBest restaurant in Marrakesh!!! We went there after seeing several recommendations from various websites and it was an amazing experience! The staff was friendly and very helpful, there was a misunderstanding with our reservation and it was solved very efficiently. They offer a good variety of dishes, suitable for someone who is looking for Moroccan food, international and vegetarian. Also a wide range of cocktails, wines and other beverages. One of the reasons we were drawned to this place was that they have some typical dishes that aren’t easily found so often, and confectioned with a special touch. The atmosphere was very pleasant (I recommend booking a table specifically in the rooftop) and the staff explains every dish with detail. The food was on point, absolutely nothing bad to say about it. In the end, the restaurant offers a service with a person who guides you to your accommodation or to a familiar street/place to set you in the right path. The price was very appropriate for the amount of food and its quality, service and atmosphere! It’s a great place if you are looking for a more special experience, but without being pretentious or overpriced. This was our favourite meal in Marrakesh, could not...
