This place is ideal if you're looking for something cheap and central in Thamel that is not on the main street but extremely close. ||Thapa is very helpful and was quick to respond to my every query. He organized for a plumber to come and fix my dripping shower so it wouldn't keep me awake. He also arranged my bus to Chitwan in minutes and made sure I got to the bus stand okay. ||The internet is pretty good, even if it means switching between lobby, room and rooftop networks to see which works best. I was even able to watch Netflix so can't complain!||The online booking system on their website isn't particularly reliable so I recommend emailing or calling instead, which they are quick to respond to. They also arranged someone to collect me from the airport free of charge but it took me so long to get through the visa process that I ended up catching a taxi because my lift had left.||The single standard room was not available so they gave me a deluxe room instead for the same price (10USD / 1100NPR). It had great big windows that looked down onto a garden cafe below (south facing).||The 'restaurant' is just a room with a few tables and chairs but just let someone know you're ready for breakfast and they'll make you eggs, toast and jam etc. As I have dietary requirements they were happy to store my soy milk in the fridge and lend me a bowl, spoon, knife etc so I could make my own cornflakes for breakfast in my room.||The only downside I would say is the bathroom which looked like it needed a deep clean and was pretty old but that is quite normal for cheap places! The hot water needs a few minutes of running to heat up and didn't work one morning but apparently that's because staff need to turn on the water heater at night (think someone had forgotten).||While there I recommend trying the small restaurant on the corner of Chi Baha Marg (the laneway that hotel is on) - the momos are super fresh & cheap and the owner is...
Read moreI am an American, and despite the fact that I had a Nepali friend to stay with in Kathmandu, I decided to stay at this hotel for a couple nights during my trip so I could experience the tourist attractions and nightlife of Thamel on my own. And boy was it worth it! The hotel is just a few minute's walk from tons of great stores, bars, and pubs, as well as the beautiful Narayanhiti Palace Museum and the Garden of Dreams, both of which you should absolutely visit. I came back from clubbing very late a couple times, no problem (just make sure to save the hotel number in your phone in case the front doors are closed!). The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating for all of my needs, and they cooked me breakfast! The room wasn't super fancy, but it was great for the price, and relatively clean. I got one of the deluxe rooms, which has a ceiling fan, a bathroom with a sink and western toilet and cold/hot shower, a television, multiple electric ports for US/Europe/UK plugs, a queen-sized bed, a bedside table, a desk, an armchair, and multiple windows looking over the street. There was a small roach problem (can't blame them, it was the middle of monsoon season!), but they were very quick to fix it by gassing the room with RAID while I was gone. Overall it's a wonderful little hotel and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Thamel for any...

It is managed by a pious Gurung Buddhist family. This is not a party place, but if you want to have a good experience of Nepal and its people, then please do consider staying here. The rates are fair, and especially for long stays there is even a further reduction. Rooms are well maintained and smoke free. Bathrooms are clean. The WiFi works throughout the floors. Electricity is constant. Hot water is rooftop solar, which is a wonderful temperature, or backed up by electrical heating. Rooms on the sunny far side of the house are southern facing, with a lovely garden view. Authors like to write there viewing the garden, watching birds fly, and hearing children's laughter from a nearby school. One can thus set up a bit of a home atmosphere, and enjoy a quiet, easy life. The location is at just the northern most end of Thamel, so all manner of restaurants and services are easily available. when you want them, else it's just...
