I've never experienced a Korean BBQ before, so it's hard for me to compare Mukbang to any others. I will say I had a fun and eye-opening time. I walked in (I refuse to use the pun, "I wokked in!) and was immediately confused. There were two different burners on each table. One had a wok-like plate on it and the other I found out was for the soup they would bring out. I guess I could have left at this point, but I was in New Zealand to try different and unique (to me) experiences, and this definitely turned out to be just that. Luckily, the nice greeter explained everything and, from the buffet spread, I set about picking out the thinly-sliced meat I was going to cook at my table. Was I supposed to add the meat to the soup? The guy said it was up to me. And if I was doing something wrong, he or the cashier would discretly come and "correct" me. For examlpe, I was turning my meat on the wok with my fork; the cashier quietly brought a set of tongs to the table. The soup was excellent and more than enough for a meal by itself.
The only regret is I did not show up about 15 minutes later as an experienced couple sat right across from me and I would have learned a lot by watching her prepare their meal. For example, hold the meat with the tongs and use the scissors to cut up the cooked meat and not try to saw it on the plate.
Would I come again? Probably not. NOT because the food wasn't great, but when I go out to eat, I want someone else to do...
Read moreWe came here with 3 adult and 2 kids group. It was Matariki long weekend.
Staff were kind, and the tables were full. Korean cooked food corner was tasty and food was fresh. The meat option was limited when compared to other bbq buffet (still ok since cheaper than other bbq buffets). The quality of the meat was OK. It's worth what we paid for. Kimchi, sausage, noodles, veges, prawns, and mussel were also available.
What we liked the most was that this restaurant provided 4 options of soup as shown in the photos provided on top of bbq buffet option. Just like steamboat and hotpot, you can add more ingredients, and broth could also be refilled at the time of our visit. We tried budae jjigae, soup were little bit bland (not too salty). However, no problem for me since it could be easily adjusted by adding kimchi and cheese sausages to the soup. (Which often added to budaejjigae by Korean)

Read moreI reached out with a question through Instagram messages, and the reply came back straight away – really kind and helpful. Even though it was just me and my child, they were happy to take our booking, and when we arrived at the restaurant, the staff were just as friendly in person. I was amazed that you can eat as much delicious Korean food as you like here. At Commercial Bay, you’d probably pay the same price for just a single meal, but at this restaurant you can enjoy both hotpot and Korean BBQ to your heart’s content. On top of that, they’ve got trendy Korean chicken, tteokbokki, unlimited rice, and even cakes and sweets – such a great spread! That said, I reckon it’s better to go with a bigger group. With just a couple of people, you’ll fill up on the hotpot pretty quickly, but if you’ve got more people at the table, you can share it around and still have room to enjoy the BBQ and everything else. They don’t serve alcohol, but you can help yourself to bottled drinks as much...
