Spectacular Wednesday - Monday stay in Cusco! (Then Machu Picchu Monday - Wednesday, and back to Atoq Wednesday night to fly back Thursday). The staff is wonderful! The room is cozy with a nice bathroom and both firm and soft pillows. The breakfast is delightful with some of the best coffee I've ever tasted. The view over the city is welcoming in the morning and a lovely light scape at night. Quiet at night and birds in the morning.
Details I loved:
Seriously the coffee, I'm from Seattle and enjoy a strong dark full brew of French press coffee, and now that I'm back I'm drinking bean water. The coffee here is gonna tan your throat and cut right through an altitude headache. This was some of the best coffee I've had in my life. Honestly, every coffee going forward is going to be compared with this.
Which leads me to the breakfast staff, amazing job! Someone makes these fresh sweet breads, cut to nice little two bite tasters. Eggs to order, two juices, yogurts, breads, and a couple rotating hot dish items like pancakes, hashbrowns, and a meat. A great breakfast to the start the day.
The front desk staff is wonderful. I e-mailed with Lenin when I booked, and met him when I arrived. There was another woman and man, and I'm sorry I didn't write your names down! They are all very welcoming, knowledgeable, and just willing to help with anything. They'll book you a private driver for the day (day trip to Pisac), send your same day laundry, and easily the best $10 I've spent to get pick up from the airport, and same deal if you want a ride back.
Located in the San Blas neighborhood, super cute and walkable part of town. I felt safe, and after the second day knew the streets well enough to find my way around (the entry is on a corner at the top of steps, so it can be a little tricky to see for the first time). You're a 7ish minute walk to the main plaza, 3 really great restaurants within 2 blocks, a corner store across the corner, and a stones throw from Saqsaywaman.
I did have two complaints, but I feel they are minor when compared to the overall great stay. I just don't like when reviews leave only good things, and I'm like there must have been something wasn't to your liking.
Overall the room/hotel/location is quiet. However, the door knobs are set up so you can't turn the handle without the key (great security), but it means when you close the door in the morning it's tough to "quiet close" it, so there is a pretty loud "thunk" when guests are getting going.
The shower body soap wasn't my favorite scent. Shampoo and conditioner were fine, and the hand soap was good.
So overall, I would totally recommend this hotel for the price, location, staff, breakfast, and room. I had a great stay, and hope to return one day! Thank you thank you thank you, I had an absolute blast walking Saqsaywaman, exploring Cusco, eating wonderful food, and.... you guessed it, having some of the best coffee! Thank you to everyone at...
Read moreGreat hotel! The rooms are quite nice. The views of Cusco looking towards the Plaza de Armas are spectacular. A bit about the location-it's a fairly short walk to the Plaza de Armas, mostly or all downhill depending on your route. It's in the San Blas neighborhood, which has great shops, a few cool places to have a drink, some good coffee shops and some nice little artisan shops. Most of all, it's pretty quiet! The closer you get to the Plaza de Armas area, the ,more cars and pedestrians there are. We had initially booked a different hotel many months in advance of our arrival which had just opened. It was an international chain and had no reviews, but we figured, hey- brand new hotel by a major chain must be pretty nice! Well, once it opened the reviews came pouring in about the horrible noise, so we booked the Atoq instead as the reviews noted the chill and quiet neighborhood. Best decision we have ever made! The Atoq was not only quiet but charming! The staff there are amazing! They are SO nice! WHatever we needed, wanted-done! Questions? Easily answered! The included breakfast was very nice too. Eggs to order, fresh fruits, cheeses, breads, etc. The lobby is inviting and you can relax there with some coca tea while you await an Uber, etc. Uber will come right to the doorstep, btw! Rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were excellent. Hot water, great water pressure. Everything at the hotel is super CLEAN. Not a speck of dust in the place! WHen we return to Cusco we will without a doubt stay here again. More: on the day we went to Machu Picchu (we did a one-day there-and-back trip), we had to leave at 5:00 am so they prepared a box meal for us since we would not be able to partake of the breakfast. Just let them know if you have to miss breakfast and they will hook you up! A note about tours-if you book a tour that picks you up at your hotel, they may not pick you up at the door as the streets are too small for tour vans. In our case, they came to get us at the door and we had to walk a couple of (short) blocks to the van. This made sense because the streets are tiny! However we always took Ubers back from the centro because it's uphill from there at high altitude. Ubers can get you to the doorstep no problem and are about $2 USD/ S/.8 from the Plaza de Armas. So don't let the Atoq's high location deter you-just grab an Uber back! We Ubered back to the Atoq at least 8-10 times and never waited more than 5 minutes for a pickup, btw. Airport transporation-we used Taxidatum to get to and from the Atoq/Airport. They will go right to the doorstep both ways and it was $7 USD each way. So, I am taking the time to write this review in detail because we were so impressed with the Atoq. It is perfect for a family vacation, would be good for a business trip too. It's a boutique hotel and is worth the price...
Read moreReview of Atoq San Blaz Hotel, Cusco, Peru. My two sons and I stayed at the hotel for a total of 4 nights in April 2025: 22/4 - 24/4 and 26/4 - 28/4 2025. The hotel is small and well-kept, in a sort of castle style. It is located high up in Cusco's old town. If you choose to walk from the central old Cusco up to the hotel, you should expect a rather steep climb. The streets are narrow and sidewalks are small or non-existent. Cars sometimes speed by. Cobblestone streets require appropriate shoes! You can pause now and then and enjoy all the beautiful old buildings to look at! The steep incline and high altitude make it sometimes difficult to walk up the streets. It is possible to take a taxi (Uber is not available in Cusco). Taxi prices are low and the drivers are friendly. However, one problem is that even local drivers have difficulty finding the hotel and drop you off in random places. Then it is up to you to find the hotel. But the reward is great once you finally get inside the hotel. A nicely furnished reception is the first thing you encounter. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They speak English and Spanish. It is a very beautiful and cozy little stone hotel with a patio and a charming view of Cusco and the surrounding landscape. You almost have to pinch yourself to take in the stunningly beautiful view. There are several stairs, but there is an elevator. The rooms are relatively large and have everything you need. However, the TV didn’t work. But what does that matter when there is so much to see in the surroundings! The hotel feels like a family home and you feel very comfortable. The dining room is a delightful place with a wide view over large parts of the city and the surrounding mountains. The breakfast room is not large, but the breakfast is very good and the staff is nice and friendly. Overall, it is one of the finer hotels I have stayed at. We would...
