When i arrived at the location, i was not sure my taxi brought me at the right place (even the driver was confuse and stepped out the car to ask the store next door). The small dark and skechy entrance was full of garbage and construction material. As i mentioned it to the owners, they told me it was from the "neighbours". Although it was late afternoon, my room was not ready. They apparently forgot to prepare it and made a very quick cleaning. I had to wait in the meanwhile in the patio and could see/hear everything. I didn't see them changing the bedsheets. But i prefer to believe they did and not to think to much about it.. While i was waiting, i found out the "neighbours" who were remodeling and left garbage in the entrance were actually them... strange... Finally i could get to my room, and sadly it was smelling very bad but they did as if there was nothing. Apparently they offerer a laundry service for extra charge 10s/kg but not express. I personally used the service from the laundry next door for same price but express service (in 2h) and was very happy. In the evening (end mai) it was very cold in the room: 7°C... they don't have heating system (unless extra charge, but apparently it was the night not available..). Since i insisted they prepared me a warm water bag and made me feel like i was a drama queen. They even told me "this night it will even drop below 0°C". By reading all the comments, i was expecting something different. I honestly didn't find it a pleasant stay and i was glad i booked only 2 nights. In a hostel in cusco i had warm water all day and heating for...

Though Carmen is friendly and warm she is very unprofessional. We booked our room for 3 nights. We stayed for 2, went to Machu Picchu for a night, and then had reserved and PAID for the room for the night of our return. After a long day of traveling and hiking we returned at night to learn she had given our room away. She told us we could stay at her friends house, which was not a hotel or hostel, nor were the accomadations what we requested (2 beds w bathroom). We were forced to scramble for a hotel last minute at 9pm at night, most of which were full by then, and ended up having to pay $110 for a luxury hotel (vs the $25 we had already paid for Casa De Carmen).
The room was loud, the walls shook whenever someone upstairs flushed the toilet, and the cigarette smoke from the courtyard came into our room. These things weren’t great but we’re managable for a $25 room. You get what you pay for. But to give away our room that was reserved months in advance and paid for with no communication or warning is...
Read moreRoom was dark, dingy, and uncomfortable. I could hear every single footstep, voice, and movement outside from my room. Early in the morning (we’re talking at least 6am) there is already somebody outside cleaning or doing other things that make noise. I never felt I was able to rest in my room. The bathroom window was also broken/nonexistent, I had to ask that it at least be covered with a cloth (a temporary fix) so that I could actually use the bathroom without being seen from outside. I initially reserved the room for a week, but only ended up being able to last for two nights. When I explained why I was leaving, the owner got upset and said he would be charging me for three nights for the inconvenience (even though I only stayed for two nights and was ready to check out by 10am). It’s also cash-only and they charge 10% commission if you want to use a card.
Pro-tip I learned: Don’t reserve more than a night in advance- get to know the place more and then decide if it’s worth staying or not. For me, it wasn’t- there are so many other better places at a...
