This was the worst hostel we have stayed in during the last 2 months in Ecuador and Peru. It may sound almost too bad to be true, but unfortunately, I am not exaggerating. ||||The arrival and our room: We arrived on the evening of the 31st of December around 6 PM, coming directly from the airport. The staff told us the matrimonial room which we had booked was occupied. They offered us a room with two single beds instead. The room which we got offered was nothing like on the pictures on booking.com. The furniture, floor and walls were shabby and the blanket on one bed was rather dirty. Now towels were provided either and we later found black mould behind one bed on the wall. The only window was facing towards an maybe 15sqm big courtyard, half filled with trash and junk. We asked for a differend room and they told us they only had this one available or could offer us beds in the dorm for the same price. As mentioned, it was December 31st and with New Years eve ahead and tours already planned for the next day, we enforcedly decided to stay there and not search for another hostel nearby. ||||Bathrooms: As already mentioned, the room was quite old and ugly. The shower in the bathroom next door was even more dirty and I rather don't want to mention the toilet, lets just say it was out of order. There were other bathrooms upstairs which were slightly cleaner but also in desperate need of a renovation. ||||Wifi: The Wifi did not work at all on the first evening, neither with Samsung or Apple smartphone, nor with a laptop. In fairness though, the next day, Wifi was available in the communal area, but the signal varied heavily and did not reach into our room.||||Breakfast: The breakfast simple but ok, peruvian bread, butter, jam, fried eggs and coffee or tea. However, while we were eating, we widnessed that they refused other guests their breakfast at 9:30 am, even though they have signs that breakfast is available until 10 am and even mentioned it upon check in. Only explanation: They had already cleaned up the kitchen. So if you want breakfast, better get up early.||||Staff: We met two women during our stay. The younger one was friendly and at least tried to be helpful. The older one was extremely rude. She also tried to charge us more than agreed upon check-out. Luckily we had the written booking confirmation with us.||||Location: The adress is not Calle Siete Angelitos 674 but 675, on the other side of the street. There is another hostel with the same adress called Umina San Blas. Both are the same in fact, but Umina San Blas has quite low scores on review sites. I guess they recently changed the name to...
Read moreI've just spent 2 months in South America and this hotel was by far the worst, and here's why : ||||- the hotel didn't take our reservation into account even though we had made it on Booking a few days ago, so when we arrived the first night we didn't have a room and had to wait 3-4 hours in order to have one. We stayed in this hotel almost a whole week, changing rooms after each trip (machu picchu, amazonia, etc), and every time there was an issue with our reservations and nothing went as planned, sometimes ending us in the dormitory instead of the 2-bedrooms room we had reserved. ||||- the staff was very rude and unpleasant, one of the lady even insulted me at the end because I was unsatisfied with one of their services. What's more one night one staff member came into our room and awakened us just to accuse us of stealing 40 soles which, of course, we hadn't stolen. || ||- speaking of their services, a lot of them were unacceptable, and among them the one supposed to take care of our laundry. We wanted it to be ready at 4pm in order for us to leave and have our bus to Lima but it wasn't ready on time so I had to go and take it myself a few streets away a few minutes before our bus was supposed to leave. ||||- also the showers weren't working half of the time, I had to switch from one to another half naked and with all my stuff, and when it was working (meaning when the staff didn't cut the water) it was freezing, so impossible to take a shower for more than 5 minutes. ||||- no plugs in the room, or weren't working. Rooms beyond average, with very thin walls so I was awakened many times by people speaking in the corridors. ||||Overall very unpleasant hotel, our worst experience in South America so far. Even though it's one of the cheapest in town try to avoid it...
Read moreI had booked my stay at Intipackers 2 days before my arrival and arrived at the hotel on Christmas day. It was not easy to find them as they do not have any visible signs on the street, I was carrying 25kg bags alone and asked their neighbors for info. Their receptionist lady could not speak any English. She first asked me to wait for a while then came back to tell me there is a guest feeling sick so she might not check out from my booked room today. The receptionist explained again and again and wanted me to understand that if the guest did not check out, they will not be able to give me the room. I understood and acknowledged the situation and asked for a solution. She offered me a downstair's room instead and asked for the same money. But it is not the room I booked, it is ok for me to change room but not with the same money. She insisted and offered me a more expensive hotel at my own cost. I then asked if I could use their Wifi to find a place myself, but apparently, their Wifi did not work at all. When I tried to talk to her and ask about Wifi she got really annoyed and started cutting meat in the kitchen and pretended as if I didn't exist. "It is Christmas, so the Wifi maybe not working." I had no choice but to walk around physically to find a different hotel and asked to use internet from other hotels. My first several hrs in Cusco were horrible. The coldness and rudeness from their staff absolutely shocked me on a Christmas Day. I hope the hotel manager could resolve such problems and give more empathy and caring to their...
