White Shamrock Beach Hotel — Hotel in Malay

We stayed at Shamrock for 10 nights. Overall 3 stars. Nothing special.

Pros: close to the beach and shops, staff were kind and nice, free hot and cold drinking water was great to access for cold water at the beach and hot coffee in the morning. Staff cleaned our room every 3 days with fresh sheets and towels and sweeping the floors of all the sand we brought in from the beach. The bed was average comfortable with 3 pillows. 4 pillows would have been perfect. Free use beach towels were very nice quality and a nice amenity. Shared common area to watch TV was nice. I never had to share it so it was great for me.

Cons: I did not have faith that bathrooms and sink areas were sanitized frequently or at all. I never smelled bleach or sanitizing chemicals in the bathrooms which made standing on tile floors sketchy in bare feet. When you see the same dirt, filth and hair for days it makes cleaning frequency questionable. I did mention it to staff but I didn’t see any change. Bathrooms are shared and frequently used. Disease and sickness, foot funguses, etc can easily spread. This was my biggest pet peeve about the shared facilities. Staff seemed to have a lot of time on their hands but sanitizing was not on the list. I suggested 2-3 times a day to disinfect shared areas with bleach. A spray bottle could even be left for guest to spray after they are done. It didn’t have to be bleach but something that kills bacteria. It is warm and wet and perfect breeding ground for disease.

Our room was small. I would suggest more hooks on the door and walls so guests can hang clothes. Bathrooms could use hooks as well to keep things off the ground. Our room had little tiny insects crawling all over the night table. It didn’t bother me too much and I tried to ignore it. Small safe provided to secure valuables was bolted to the night table but not the floor. No instructions to use the safe was provided or offered. It wasn’t secure and no use at all regardless. The room door also had simple locking door handle. No deadbolt lock and the door looked like it was forced open a few times from the old damage to it. Overall not secure for valuables.

Last thing i disliked was the AC unit. Low quality, loud and hit and miss to adjust it. Either you felt cold and damp or if you adjust the temp with manual knob it became warm, stuffy and damp. When I asked for a fan I got a confused look and no fan was ever brought to me.

Value for money: there are a lot of places for rent and competition is high so finding stuff in the same price range with better amenities is very possible. We paid close to 1600P night. We were able to find a place for less at station 3 which in my opinion is a better end of the beach. It’s quieter and less hawkers to disturb you. Also private bathroom, tv in room, kitchen facilities and modern AC unit all for less money.

Shamrock wasn’t terrible but I would not stay again knowing there is better value elsewhere. Sharing facilities is a last choice for me after this recent experience.

We specifically booked a room and with a private bathroom and paid in advance in full 3 months before. Our booking was supposed to be for 5 nights but the staff was only able to accomodate the private bathroom for 4 nights. We weren’t refunded for the last night difference for the extra that we paid for the private bathroom. We were being requested to move to a room with a shared bathroom, which is unfair since we paid for the room with a private bathroom. The place also says it is beachfront but it isn’t as it is 3 mins away from the beach. You have to walk through the talipapa/market to get to the beach. The wifi wasn’t also working at the time of our accomodation. There is also no daily housekeeping, our trashcan was so full. The facilities under our booking says it has bathtub but there isn’t one. The private bathroom is small. I could understand that the wifi was underway at the time of our booking but what I was really disappointed was that we are being asked to move to a smaller room with a shared bathroom when we weren’t even given a refund for the price differencial for the room that...

The Place is clean and the staff is very friendly, I stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. So far all is good the receptionist are very accommodating I arrived earlier than expected without any notice of early check in,but they managed to accommodate me as soon as I arrived.
