1/ location: right bang smack in the middle of the main tourist strip. a short walk to everything and you’re spoilt for choice for food options. if you wish to cook in, there are grocery stores nearby. ||2/ room: i stayed in a private room meant for 4 people with an en-suite before moving to a 3 bed dorm with a shared bathroom, which were all in the top floor. the private room is spacious and the en suite adequate. the 3 bed dorm had 3 single beds lined up in very close proximity to each other which felt rather weird if it were 3 solo travellers sharing the room. both rooms presented similar problems - (1) there was nowhere to hang clothes, no hanging hooks or racks and (2) the lighting in the rooms were very poor. i get the effort to create a warm cosy ambience but it’s hard to see properly when looking through your bag for example. while i love the character of old wooden flooring, you can hear every movement outside when someone is coming to your floor. hostel mates who lived on the lower floors feedback they can hear all movements from the floor above as well. if you’re a light sleeper, you will likely be impacted.||3/ common areas: very cosy areas to hang out in on every floor, which was great. and on the main common floor, you can play tetris, strum the guitar or read very comfortably. the kitchen was adequate although i did not try cooking anything fancy there. ||4/ other amenities: the free brekkie was adequate and substantial but don’t expect anything fancy. the free walking tours with wild walkers are fantastic, make sure you do both (they each cover a different area of lisbon). we covered good ground and i found them informative. ||5/ staff: this is a little tricky. they were definitely helpful and polite. however they are a little more reserved than the usual hostel staff that i come across. one small concern i have is when i was in the three bed dorm (i was by myself that night) - a staff walked into my dorm without any prior signal like knocking at 8:30am. he saw that i was awake and clarified he was checking to see if he could direct a guest trying for an early check in into the room. if the timing was later in the morning, i would not have felt so uncomfortable but i did not think it was appropriate for a staff to walk in...
Read moreThe Lisbon Lounge Hostel was my last stop on my 7-days-trip through Portugal this August. On this trip, I stayed in four hostels total and I whole-heartedly can say: The experience in the Lisbon Lounge Hostel was for sure the best I had on this vacation if not of all my stays ever in hostels.
From the first moment on I felt a sense of coziness comparable to that "coming-home-feeling" you have after being away for some time. Moreover, the team was more than welcoming and added to the over-all ease noticeable during the whole visit.
The community rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished. One can tell that the setup of the hostel was well thought-through. The kitchen has everything you need if you wanted to cook for yourself or the like.
Additionally, there are more than enough bathrooms on each floor which were always well taken care of.
I stayed in a 4-bed-mixed-room which was equipped with two bunk beds, an AC and lockers to store your valuables in. Since the windows seemed to be soundproof and the room well-temperatured via the AC I didn't have any troubles getting a good night of sleep :) (although the hostel is in the very centre of Lisbon!). Noteworthy: there are enough sockets to charge your electronics.
In the morning, you have the chance to get yourself well-prepared for a long day of exploring the beautiful city of Lisbon by enjoying a rich and diverse breakfast with good-quality ingredients. Pro tip: Sign up for the home-made dinner in the evening, - you won't regret it.
Overall, I highly recommend staying in this hostel, if you're looking for a place that is offering a chance to truly pause for a moment, get insider tips by locals on where to go to in Lisbon and just feel welcomed instead of having "just-some-sleep-accomodation". Also I felt really safe as a solo-female-traveller.
I'll gladly visit again some day!
Lots of love...
Read moreShame on those who wrote fake positive reviews. Though I am not surprised as this place accepts migrant people who look for jobs.
The rooms are old with no ventilation, you will inhale the air others exhaled all the night.
Quite noisy
two restroom for nearly 30+ people in every floor.
The WC is very very small for an average male, if you know what I mean. I was always and deeply exhausted when using the restroom, as they are so small that ... . I went outside in the surrounding cafe's to use the restrooms.
There are NO waste basket, clock, hanger in bath, hair dryer. I put my clothes on the door (not hanging). Even the bathrooms do not have any fan or correct ventilator, so when you go bathing, all the room (Where a toilet is located) will be filled with steam fog.
For breakfast, there is only coffee, pancake, and some jars. No eggs, sausage, ham or beef.
Early in the morning at 7, the staff working there shout purposefully to wake us up. They whistle, sing, laugh, and listen to music super loudly.
The surrounding area is filled with drug dealers and aggressive resultant salesperson. They annoyingly bother you with selling drugs, and ask you to eat at their restaurant. They even follow you a long your way. Which was very distressing.
a day before your arrival, you are forced to fill many many personal information on their website, and forcefully accept their privacy policy. This is their "check-in policy".
The food price in the hood though is quite expensive. The idea that Lisbon is cheap is a big lie!
This place is a scam, do...
