Booked a double room with shared bath.. we aren't fancy and don't mind dorm living. In the photographs posted, you will see my original booking for a double room with shared bath .. and you will also see the room key with the room that we were designated to. As you see, our designated room is two bunk beds, not a double. Move past the next paragraph for the rest of the review if you do not wish to read the complaint. My biggest issue with making a reservation at this hotel is (1) double with shared bath is portrayed on their website and on TripAdvisor as a DOUBLE BED, not two bunk beds & (2) I was not willing to pay more for this room if it was more expensive (this hotel completes transactions at check out). ||COMPLAINT: When confronting the staff about the reservation, they stated the room that I booked is the correct room assigned. Ok, no problem. Maybe an error on the customer??? HOWEVER, I called booking.com who confirmed my Double Bed with shared bath booking. Booking.com notified the hotel about the confirmed reservation. The manager (Ron, I believe his name is) told booking.com that I had exactly the room that was booked.. the manager told booking.com that they cannot accommodate us tonight, but will be able to accommodate the next day.. the next day came, and low and behold, they confirm that the room was given away (note this was before check in time)... So.... here I am.. posting on TripAdvisor, booking.com, and yelp about this ordeal. ||The hotel itself.. it is beautiful. It is situated in between Interlaken WEST and Interlaken OST train stations. It is easier to walk to this hotel from Interlaken OST. Everything in this town is walkable. The views are breathtaking and the air is crisp! ||The 5th floor isn't for those who carry a lot of luggage or for those who may have a physical disability. The elevator only goes to the 4th floor then you must walk up to the 5th floor. I would not recommend this to someone who may have difficulty with stairs or packs too heavy.||The shared toilet and shared shower are very clean. I actually witnessed it being cleaned daily (mostly in the afternoon/evening). It ain't the ritz or the hilton, but it's definitely everything you need.||The beds were ok. Since we had the 2 bunk beds room, I slept on three on the beds and my partner slept on her own. Honestly it depends on what you prefer as a customer as far as firmness. 3 beds were firm and 1 was softer. ||The breakfast was included and thank god it was because Interlaken restaurants are quite expensive. The breakfast was actually quite good. Mixed dry cereals, yogurt, toast, croissants, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and chicken satay/chicken sausage.. PLEASE NOTE: if you're breakfast is included it is from 7-10am. A family came down at 1010 bc they were told until 1030 and there was a big mix up w that ordeal.||A final point I will make, having the hotel key and coupons/bus pass is helpful to the activities surrounding this area. The hotel reservation includes discounts if you show a ticketing office where you are staying. For example, harder klum was 21 franks versus the 26-28 with a Eurail pass. Also the pass includes free public...
Read moreThis was our first time in Interlaken. Our family really enjoyed the location of this hotel. It was walkable to almost everything we wanted, especially the trains and boat. The overall convenience of the location was perfect. The kids really loved the bunk beds in the family room. The size of the suite was perfect for a family of 5 in 1 room. The beds were also very comfortable. The breakfast was an additional fee per room, the food was mediocre at best and pretty much the same every morning.
Dislikes: We honestly didn't like the aroma of when they started cooking in the restaurant downstairs. Which poured into the staircase and hallways of where we were staying, it reeked of overcooked cheese every night and it was not enjoyable during those times.
One of our parties stayed directly below us and they could hear when we were walking around. We didn't have carpet in our room so I'm sure it made a difference in the noise we made when just walking around the room. Luckily they were just able to text us and let us know so we were quieter walking around after that. But imagine if you didn't know the group staying above you with the noise they project just by walking.
The front staff during check in was great. But during check out, one of our groups was leaving a day early, and we experienced a not so friendly check out receptionist. There was definitely a language barrier, but she was very very rude and condescending. We prepaid for our room at check in and I showed her that, but she kept insisting that the room owed 1800 francs for the MINI BAR. I asked her for an itemized list of charges, which she refused until I swiped my card. I've never experienced that in all the hotels we've stayed at. We only had 2 beers and a water bottle, which did not amount to the exorbitant price being charged. I ended up having my husband return to sort it out, which he was met with another receptionist who was more than happy to print out and show what the charges were. The total charge came out to about 45 franc, instead of the 1800 franc I was originally quoted. That experience alone left a sour taste for the overall experience...
Read moreThe mixed reviews posted for the Interlakken Inn made us question whether to book it or not. We took the plunge and I can honestly recommend it. We stayed mid-week Tues-Friday at the main house, which is tastefully decorated, with beautiful artwork, the grounds and the landscaping are groomed to perfection. The chairs by the lake were what we were seeking–a relaxing spot to sit and read. We had dinner at Morgan’s, their restaurant, the first night and last night and it was very good. The room was attractive, very spacious, with balcony, a safe and coffee machine, the bed was comfortable, and the updated bathroom had everything necessary, from all the toiletries to a magnifying mirror, and a good shower. |Two tables were in need of some TLC. A little sanding and revarnishing would go a long way. And the lighting is very, very poor. The dim lights by the beds, both turn off or both on, can’t be used individually. |For breakfast, coffee and some pastries on a plate .downstairs. hot breakfast is available on weekends. The cafe is a self-serve room with yogurts, croissants, ice-cream etc. and some ham, bacon and sausage sandwiches in a warmer, not my idea of a hot breakfast. We had to go to the Oakhurst diner in Millerton, a seven-minute ride, only to find it is closed on Tuesday and Wed.; ended up at Talk of the Town Deli, acceptable, but not memorable. |On Thursday morning at 9:15 a riding lawn mower, started doing its thing outside our room. Couldn’t it be done a little later? |If the minor furniture issues and lighting were taken care of and a better breakfast and lunch situation were available, all easily fixed, Interlakken Inn, would go from good to almost excellent. We will return. |While we were seating by the lake, Bryan, manager, came to ask about our stay and seems genuinely interested in our feedback. |Saving the best for last–the staff. Each and every employee was friendly, efficient, and...
