Before my stay, the hotel had me fill out a quick check in form smooth sailing right from the get go. Upon reaching Zermatt, I was greeted by my very own futuristic chariot, an electric taxi sent by the hotel to whisk me away. At the Christiania Mountain & Spa, the friendly desk staff welcomed me like an old friend. My room was ready, and after a brief but thorough tour of the hotel's highlights (so I wouldn’t accidentally wander into the spa in my hiking boots), I was comfortably settled in my room within 10 minutes. All the essentials for a seamless week’s stay were handed to me on a metaphorical silver platter. ||||The single room described on the website as “potentially noisy” due to its proximity to the lift turned out to be a rather amusing mischaracterization. Honestly, they could have stationed me inside the lift itself, and I would have still drifted into a blissful slumber.||||The room was ideally suited for a solo traveler. Spotlessly clean, thoughtfully furnished, and featuring a bed so exceptionally comfortable that one might suspect it was the product of extensive research conducted by sleep specialists. It was a space designed not just for rest, but for the kind of restorative sleep that transforms a day into a memory worth cherishing. A genuinely delightful stay.||||Now, the view was a bit of a blend think majestic mountains in the distance, but with another hotel standing in the foreground as an uninvited guest. Still, those alpine peaks managed to steal the show and set the mood every morning when I peeked out of the window. Who needs a balcony when even the “supporting cast” of the view reminds you that you’re in the Swiss Alps?||||And let’s not forget the bathroom, absolutely pristine so clean, I joked I could eat my dinner in there (don’t worry, I didn’t! Half board had me covered, which we’ll get to). Throughout my stay, the room and bathroom remained spotless, thanks to the ever diligent housekeeping staff. Massive kudos to them they made sure every request was met with a smile. When I asked for an extra pillow (battle scars from my neck injury) or even an iron which due to laws they cannot provide but they went above and beyond and did ironing for me, making sure I was looked after. ||||The room was loaded with thoughtful details, a huge, swiveling TV that connected straight to my phone to cast. Add to that a warm welcome gift of chocolates, fruit, water, and coffee pods, plus a handy fridge and more than enough storage for clothes. It was everything I needed and then some. In short, the room was flawless even if my schedule meant I only ever saw it when I was asleep. ||||Breakfast was a feast for both the eyes and the appetite, with every culinary base covered. The spread featured hot dishes galore boiled, scrambled, and fried eggs, bacon rashers crisped to perfection, and waffles that deserved their own fan club. For the health conscious (or those simply pretending), there was fresh fruit, gluten-free bread complete with its own dedicated toaster, yogurts galore, and cereals. A variety of pastries stood ready to test the willpower of even the most disciplined skier. ||||Two coffee machines made sure caffeine emergencies were practically non existent, while an orange juicer churned out fresh juice so good it could make store bought OJ feel personally inadequate. It was the kind of breakfast buffet that didn’t just fuel you for the slopes it equipped you with the stamina to tackle them like a pro (or at least feel like one). And the staff? Friendly, attentive, and running the operation so smoothly it felt like they had been professionally trained by breakfast ninjas. An unforgettable start to the day.||||Dinner was included in my half-board stay, and what a first impression it made. On my very first evening, before I even reached the host stand, the restaurant manager approached me with uncanny precision, "Room 333, we've been expecting you, shellfish allergy, correct?" It was as if he had read my mind or maybe attended a pre shift briefing complete with a photo of me titled “Guest Most Likely to Panic Over a Rogue Shrimp."||||Every staff member was not only aware of my allergy but seemed personally invested in ensuring I had a worry free dining experience. It was like being on a reality show where the entire cast's mission was “Keep Room 333 Alive and Happy." Their attentiveness and professionalism completely eased any concerns, allowing me to truly enjoy my meal. An outstanding start to the culinary adventures of my stay! ||||The food was nothing short of phenomenal. Each day brought a new four course menu, complete with a choice of mains meat, fish, or vegetarian crafted to perfection. And the desserts? Let me tell you, they were so incredible they could make even the toughest food critic weep with joy. The flavors in every dish were genuinely out of this world, and as a self-proclaimed food aficionado, I was blown away. Hats off to the chefs, who much to my dismay I didn’t get the chance to meet.||||The sheer number of names was enough to leave me bewildered, but one thing is crystal clear every single member of the bar & restaurant staff deserves a standing ovation. Thank you for what you do. You make life for your guests smoother than butter on a warm croissant, and the level of service you provide is nothing short of extraordinary.||||After dinner, the bar’s warm glow naturally beckoned, inviting you to unwind in its comfortable embrace. A crackling fireplace and comfy seating set the perfect tone, but it was the bar staff who truly elevated the experience. During my stay taking centre stage was Bianca an Italian mixologist whose passion and professionalism shone through with every drink she prepared. ||||Her presence wasn’t just confident it was magnetic. Every movement was deliberate, every choice precise, as though she poured not just liquid, but a piece of herself into each creation. Clearly, the hotel had struck gold in hiring her, she wasn’t just fulfilling a role, she was embodying an art form.||||Intrigued to witness her artistry, I requested a spiced rum with ginger ale, a hint of lime, and fresh lime juice. While the drink itself may seem simple, its execution relies on achieving perfect balance and harmony a true test of skill.||||Watching her in action was nothing short of captivating. She moved with quiet confidence and an elegance that spoke volumes about her passion for mixology. Every step was executed with precision and care. Her composure and attention to detail made the entire process mesmerising to behold.||||The flavours were flawlessly balanced, each note complementing the other, the warmth of the rum, the vibrancy of the lime, and the effervescent spice of the ginger ale blending in a symphony of refreshment and sophistication. It was far more than just a drink, it was a reflection of someone deeply dedicated to their craft.||||Her natural talent, combined with her grace and poise, left a lasting impression. To experience such a creation was to witness the work of someone who not only excels in what they do but also takes genuine pride in making every detail exceptional. ||||As for the spa, the ultimate haven of tranquility a spa so well equipped and welcoming that it deserves its own standing ovation. Let’s talk about this 25 meter pool, a glorious expanse of water that beckons swimmers of all skill levels. Add to that enough saunas to make even the most stressed out soul feel utterly pampered, and you’ve got a recipe for relaxation at its finest.||||But it doesn’t stop there. The ample shower facilities and changing rooms ensure your comfort and convenience are prioritised. No detail is overlooked. Then there’s the pièce de résistance, the jacuzzi. Oh, the jacuzzi a bubbling sanctuary designed not just to soothe tired muscles but to wrap your entire being in a warm, relaxing embrace. It’s a symphony of jets that orchestrate the perfect massage, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle anything.||||Credit where it’s due, the spa staff are nothing short of exceptional. Their tireless efforts keep the place spotless and hygienic, a testament to their commitment to excellence. Add their friendliness and accommodating nature into the mix, and they truly elevate the experience to something unforgettable. It’s not just a visit to a spa; it’s a retreat into pure bliss after a hard days skiing.||||Two days of skiing, exhilarating, scenic, and let's be honest a full on assault on your legs. The slopes were conquered, gravity was defied (or maybe embraced, depending on how graceful those tumbles were), and by the end of it all, your legs felt like overcooked spaghetti. Tight, fatigued, and practically begging for mercy.||||Enter the savior of the hour, Willi Dimmer, the maestro of muscle recovery, the Picasso of pressure points, the Gandalf of glutes and hamstrings. From the moment he worked his magic, it was clear this was no ordinary massage. No, this was an art form. Willi seemed to have a sixth sense a supernatural understanding of exactly where skiing had taken its toll. He honed in on those rebellious areas with the precision of a surgeon and the finesse of a seasoned ski instructor carving down a powdery slope.||||What followed can only be described as transformational. Muscles that once screamed in protest now purred in contentment. Stiffness melted away, replaced by a glorious sense of relief and a newfound lease on life or at least on skiing. By the end of the session, you were ready to take on another two days of brutality.||||Here’s to Willi Dimmer, the man, the myth, the miracle worker. If massages were Olympic sports, he’d be bringing home the gold every time.||||The Christiania Mountain & Spa in Zermatt is more than just a family run hotel it's a testament to the Franzen-Bieri family's dedication to hospitality, tradition, and heartfelt care. Their ability to seamlessly blend local charm with modern luxury creates an environment that feels not only welcoming but also deeply comforting, like a home away from home.||||I am profoundly grateful for the unforgettable experience they provided. From daily check-ins to ensure my safety and comfort, to the genuine kindness shown throughout my stay, their attention to detail and commitment to their guests is truly unparalleled. The team they have built is nothing short of extraordinary each individual embodies the warmth, professionalism, and respect that make this hotel a sanctuary of stress-free relaxation. Every need was met with a smile, and nothing was ever too much to ask.||||What touched me the most was the level of care that extended far beyond the usual expectations. Even as I rushed to catch my train back to the airport, having forgotten my headphones in my room, the reception staff went above and beyond ensuring they were delivered to me at the station in time for my departure. This act of kindness and efficiency is something I will carry with me always. It’s a reflection of the values and love that permeate every corner of Christiania Mountain & Spa. ||||My heartfelt thanks to every individual I had the pleasure of interacting with during my stay. You transformed this journey from a simple visit into a truly...
Read moreWe stayed at the Christiania Mountain & Spa hotel for three nights in mid-Sep25. Services: First of all, the service was amazing! From the moment we got to Zermatt station until we left, every staff member was brilliant towards us! They even had free shuttles to and from the station and the driver brought our bags to our rooms. Since we checked in online, it took less than a minute to check in at the counter. "Alilisa", who greeted us at the front desk, was super friendly and showed us to our rooms, explaining all the hotel stuff like the pool and spa. The breakfast staff were also incredibly polite, kind, and hard-working. Everyone we met was polite and friendly, always saying good morning or good evening whenever we walked past. The manager even opened the door for us when we left too. Christiania is a hotel where the staff really cares about the guests. Rooms: we got two rooms & they were on the fourth floor, east side. The single room was actually pretty nice and cozy. The panorama room with the balcony was totally awesome! It was huge and gorgeous. The view of the Matterhorn was super picturesque, whether I was looking out the big window or on the balcony, any time of day. The bathroom was also beautiful and big. They even gave us welcome fruit, a bathrobe, and slippers. Breakfast: Breakfast was good too. They had hot and continental sections. Although they didn't have a ton of choices and the breakfast area wasn't huge, but the food was great. I especially loved their scrambled eggs, yogurt, and fresh orange juice. Location: the hotel has got two wings. The main one's up on a hill, but the east wing isn't. It's in a quiet part of Zermatt, but you can walk to the stations in like 7 or 8 minutes, and the Sunnegga station is super close. My room had an awesome view of the Matterhorn, and I believe half of the other rooms do too. Honestly, the location is perfect because it's both quiet and easy to get around. This was our second time in Zermatt and the Christiania hotel was way better than our first stay at Zermama. Although there's a few things they could improve, but honestly, it's better than a lot of 4-star hotels. We're 100% coming back to Christiania next time when we're in Zermatt. Thanks again to everyone at Christiania for being so awesome and making our...
Read moreWe have just spent a fantastic week at Christiania, our second stay at this wonderful hotel. It really is the perfect place to relax and enjoy Zermatt.
Its location is ideal for skiing, with the Sunnegga funicular right next door and the Gornergrat Bahn just a short walk away. We took the funicular most mornings but for variety walked to slightly further distance the train one morning, for a direct ride to the top of the Gornergrat.
We at dinner at the hotel three nights out of our seven — once having the set menu (featuring a wildly extensive salad buffet) and twice à la carte. The food was delicious, with high-quality ingredients prepared with obvious skill. The daily breakfast was equally, notably offering a wide selection of excellent breads alongside all the expected continental breakfast fare.
The hotel’s spa is its centrepiece. The 25m stainless steel lap pool is a rare amenity in a hotel of this intimate scale, and it sets Christina apart from its peers not just in Zermatt but the Alps as a whole. The saunas and steam room are modern and well-maintained and the massage I had from Willy one afternoon was exceptionally good.
The hotel service strikes the winning balance of friendly, discreet, and deeply professional. The WhatsApp communication with the front desk made small requests effortless, and the staff seemed to go out of their way to ensure our stay was enjoyable. A standout touch was our early morning departure: the hotel not only arranged our complimentary transfer before 6am, but even packed us a breakfast picnic to take on the train.
We cannot recommend Christiania highly enough. We will...
