We certainly enjoyed our week-long stay at the comfortable and friendly Hotel Phoenix. Yes, it was one of the busiest times of the year to visit famous Zermatt, but the hotel was always able to answer all our questions and assist with travel issues in a timely fashion. The rates at the hotel are fair, although overall Zermatt is an expensive city to visit during the holidays.||The small alpine-style hotel is located about four-five blocks away from the train station in a more quiet area across the river. There are some little hills to navigate, but even with snow and ice it was not too difficult. ||Our room was spacious and had a back patio, great for stargazing. The beds were a bit firm, but featured the lovely and warm feather coverlets. Everything in our room was clean and modern--there was even a little tray for boots. ||The included breakfast was very expansive--fruits, breads, cereals, cheeses, meats--and even a fancy hot drink machine. We were greeted every morning by the manager Laurence and assigned a table, usually with a lovely Winter view.||The hotel also has a relaxing bar and seating area, with afternoon soup available, but since my husband was skiing every day he was never able to use it, although I did try to stop there a few times. There is a front ski room to store all ski equipment before entering the hotel, and the ski rental location recommended by the hotel is close by and reasonably priced. One of the ski lifts is less than a five minute walk away.||There is no night staff available at the hotel, so plan accordingly. Your key card will open the hotel--especially great when returning from a New Year's eve dance party at 3:00 AM! I did receive a second key card upon request because husband and I were on different schedules during the day. ||We would definitely recommend the hospitable Hotel Phoenix for a relaxing and pleasant stay in...
Read moreThis is a hotel that wants to become world class but some work needs to be done. A misunderstanding by the hotel meant that no one was there to receive at the train station on a rainy day. We had to find our way to the hotel. Note - if you walk, a short stretch has an uphill incline, and depending on your physical condition it may be difficult. Matterhorn view from ground floor is compromised now as there is construction happening on roof of the building next door. Take higher floors. The checking in person was brusque and defensive about the room views. We may have not booked the room if we were told earlier ( at time of booking ) that the view is compromised. Complimentary water in room only on day of check in ( they explicitly state this ). We asked for 4 extra coffee pods on a rainy day as we stayed inside and were charged 1 CHF for each pod. Seemed this was a minimum complimentary thing that could have been offered. Breakfast is part of room rent and expected quality of continental variety. Milk alternatives were limited. No oat milk. If bad weather, the hotel does not have a restaurant on site for last minute dinner arrangements or room service so it can get cumbersome trying to find food at other places. The location to Sunnegga tram is excellent. Bottom line - there are better choices available in the town, as we realized after walking around. Do your research and then make a decision. We think the owners mean well and hope some positive changes are made based on...
Read moreI cannot say highly enough about Phoenix and definitely recommend to anyone going to Zermatt.
It’s hotel with love - view are both amazing, we stayed in Matterhorn view room first then on second trip a room with view at the back.
Checkin is good and make you warm to pre asking if you have anything needed help which you may needed as everyone go to Zermatt for first time would have tonnes of queries. Building is well maintenance and you could tell they review daily to make it exceptional.
Prompt and excellent service from 3 various staff from reception, breakfast restaurant.
Modern, clean and comfy room. Their breakfast is amazing. In a small hotel setting with limited space but they do whatever they could give you fresheners and varieties of good which is best among 3 hotels we stayed even some are double price than Phoenix.
My experience is already delighted in my first stay, what make it remarkable further is my second stay.
When they know I suffered from high altitude on my return trip, they are flexibility allow my super early check in and upgrade me to a more spacious room to get rest and recovered.
If only one change I want to advice, maybe give a firmer or extra set of pillows as it’s very flat at the moment.
Well done Phoenix and Kudos to Lauren (hope I pick up the...
