We stood in line and waited to order and once it was our turn to order they asked us if we would like to take it to go or sit and eat. We asked to stay to eat. They suggested we were making it hard for them and we should just sit down and order afterwards. We sat down and looked around at the customers sitting in the cafe and realized that nobody had food yet, even though it's a bakery where everything is already made. The other customers had already been seated before we stood in line several minutes earlier. We didn't have a lot of time in Zermatt and so we decided to just order to go. We asked if we ordered to go if we could sit down outside to eat our food and were told we were not allowed. We had to stand back in line and wait again. They asked if we wanted our Bromellete warm, and we confirmed we did want it warm, they gave it to us cold, they did not give us a spoon with the 8.70 yogurt that I ordered and acted annoyed when I asked. When given my order total I presented a credit card and they responded with a one word demand, "Cash!" I apologized and offered 20 Francs and they repeated, "Cash!" I waved the cash closer and they took it. When we left we ate cold Bromellete and felt like they were put out to sell us our food. We've had more hospitable starts to our mornings in Switzerland. Choose another spot so you can start your morning right. The food was okay, but the service was less...
Read moreI visited this bakery with friends in April, for their high rating and close proximity to Zermama Hotel. Unfortunately, we were met with unpleasant and passive reception. The most uncomfortable experience was that one of the staff (with darker hair color) gave a sarcastic mocking gesture that the premises charge patron for requesting additional plate. We felt as though not welcome (discriminate), as it doesn't seems to happen to other tables (local speaking, Europeans). Our enquiries were met with sneer and absense of reply/attention. Eventually the vibes just became growingly disgruntled and we left with a bad taste in the mouth.
I must say that not all staff were rude. There was this hardworking lady (curly blonde) trying her best to manage front counter to the kitchen/pantry at the back. She had been the only person there trying her best in attending to our needs, mostly in apologetic ways.
Perhaps this bakery could not handle culture diversity and group travellers.
However, I wish you all the best in training your waitresses up to the mark, as Switzerland is (after all decades) praised for its high standard in hospitality management. Unless things changed, I would not recommend this place to fellow...
Read moreOf the many Fuchs in town, this one is the best. Great selection, similar to the others but possibly greater. This is the largest location as far as I can tell and because it’s not on a busy thoroughfare, it’s less busy. Also has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Fuchs in general has a wide range of excellent sweet and savory pastries and desserts and sandwiches. I feel their coffee is over priced and subpar but otherwise food and prices and good and match similar Zermatt standards. The only reason I say that about the coffee is that I believe I was charged 6.5 chf for a regular coffee which was made by pushing a single button on a machine. Meanwhile at Zermatt Kitchen, I can get a real filter coffee made from locally roasted, hand selected third wave beans in an equally nice establishment for only 6 chf… a far better tasting cup for less. Fuchs could perhaps do a partnership with the coffee roasters at Zermatt Kitchen and offer their truly high end filter coffee. Just a suggestion. Otherwise excellent place with...
