Oh, what a delightful experience we had at this charming establishment! You see, we were a group of 11, and it seems the restaurant had a rather unique interpretation of hospitality. They had this interesting "concept" of forcing us to share food, which we politely declined, much to the waiter's obvious irritation. The food was fairly good, although overpriced, especially considering the portion size. The evening chugged along relatively smoothly until it was time to settle the bill.
Imagine our surprise when they asked if we'd kindly split the bill evenly. Of course, we declined once again, as some of us abstained from partaking in the alcoholic delights. Well, this appeared to inconvenience them greatly, as they unceremoniously dropped the bill on our table and left us to fend for ourselves, which, oddly enough, worked out in my favor because they tried sneakily to overcharge me.
As if that weren't enough, when my friend tried to settle her tab, she handed the waiter 70 CHF for a 66 CHF bill, and he asked her not once, but twice, if she actually wanted her change back. Such a display of generosity!
Towards the end, the waiter, in a moment of absolute brilliance, told us that our refusal to conform to their bill-splitting request would singlehandedly "kill" the restaurant, even though it was far from bustling. A true lesson in customer service and business...
Read more9 people - Food was flavoured but not priced to be considered a Bib Gourmand, defined by Michelin as “best value for money restaurants – offering a three course meal at a reasonable price”. The lamb tagine was excellent and presented in the traditional Moroccan clay tagine - just missing most of the lamb - 2 small pieces perhaps 30 grams each for a CHF 88 dish for two people.
The smoked eggplant was exquisite along with a very taste butter chicken. The babaganoush and hummus was also amazing.
Unfortunately the wine selection was more for a 3-star Michelin restaurant with the least expensive bottle of red wine was CHF 185 - being 4 times the price of the lamb tagine on a per person basis.
Personally, without wine appropriately priced to allow for a great pairing with the food - I don’t see how the total experience would meet anyone’s expectations of a “best value for money restaurant”.We also did not see many other tables with wine. The owner is missing a great potential here - would have been nice to see some St Emillion Grand Crus from 2015/16 - which cost CHF 30 and could be well taken up by the guests at a CHF 80-90 price point instead of pricing out your customers and losing lots of profit from...
Read moreNice place, plenty of staff. Good first impression.
Really not busy for a late lunch at around 1.30pm.
Unfortunately the staff is not paying much attention so you need to fight for the menu, then to ask for drinks, then to get to order the food. Every step is an annoyment and you just cannot enjoy the moment, hunting for a waiter forever at every possible step. We get 3 menus while we are 4 people at the table...?
Then I fully understand that we are in Zermatt, but it's now CHF 37.- for a burger + CHF 3.- for the cheese. Not exactly cheap.
But the best part is when you make sure fries will come with that CHF 40.- burger. And although the waintress did not ask if we wanted some, guess what - they are not. That's another CHF 10.- per person.
We are now at CHF 50.- for a burger, which is really, really not impressive. Probably a frozen steak.
I make sure the spinach will be cooked and not raw. Yes of course Sir. Guess what - it's actually raw.
We are getting dangerously close to a tourist trap, in my humble...
