I just have to give the Alpenhof a 5-Start review, pretty much everything was perfect! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by their delightful staff ... and as a bit of a boutique (but not too small) hotel, you can tell the "family" was always there, and the staff all treated us like family, almost like celebrities, they were all so nice, friendly, helpful and professional. From recommending activities, to directions, to setting up car service and reservations ... everything was perfect. We met the owners a few times, and they were both so kind and warm and make sure everything about our trip was perfect!
Our room was delightful ... Europe is not known for big rooms, but we had a delightful suite with a separate den, so plenty of room to enjoy and feel the freedom of plenty of space for our 5 night stay. Special props to "Ali" the bartender, bicycle tour guide, and just really good guy, for taking especially good care of us. The decor of the hotel was so good ... very Swiss in the marriage of traditional wood and mountain feel, matched with a modern flair as well ... it was beautiful, like a hand crafted wood hotel. The hotel set us up with 3 activities, 1. Spa Day - was perfect, great therapists! 2. 2 different mountain bike journeys, one on our own, was so fun to rent bikes for a day and ride up the mountain at our pace and adventure, and the other a guided tour to meet the owner family of black nosed sheep, it was so worth it... amazing sites and views, and the payoff of an hour or so with the sheep herd was so amazing and something you can't do every day. The pointed us to some hikes .... and just the perfect activities. We also skiied, pretty cool to snow ski in July! The location, just perfect, right in town, and about a 5 minute walk to the center of the action ..... perfect location.
Finally, both their restaurants were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Each day our breakfast was huge and delicious with plenty for everyone. At night, the Alpenhof restaurant was OMG good .... and I mean wow wow good. We also ate at their sister restaurant hotel "Julen" and WOW again to more traditional Swiss food. Again, they treated us like celebrities, great service and amazing food - (yes, get the lamb).
So ... if I could give more than 5 stars I would! Our 5 days at the Alpenhof were the highlight of our 2.5 week trip! We hope to come back to ski in...
Read moreDuring my recent stay in Zermatt, It was recommended to me to visit the cigar bar and lounge at Hotel Alpenhof. The cigar bar is situated in their luxurious hotel setting.
Upon entering I was greeted by the bartender, Ali, who escorted me into the cigar lounge. From the beginning his broad smile and warm, friendly nature made me feel welcome and relaxed.
I had expressed an interest in smoking a Cuban cigar and to enjoy some rum with it. He directed me to the wonderful variety of high-quality cigars that they had. He also told me that they had Hookah/Shisha available also. I made a note to myself about that. I ended up returning two days later for one of those.
I made my selection and ordered a glass of some fabulous aged rum, a 13-year old B13 that Ali recommended.
The rum pairing with the premium Potoro Cuban cigar was perfect! Ali also served me some local cheese and dark Swiss chocolate. I was in relaxation overload!
The atmosphere and decor of the cigar bar stylish and sumptuous. There was a fabulous musical playlist streaming in the background. I ordered a second glass of rum.
Ali offered me samples of some other rums. His knowledge of spirits and wines and mixology were impressive!
In all of my life and extensive travels I have seldom encountered a server who showed me as much attention and care for my needs as did Ali. He made the experience so much more than just a random stop. He made it a destination where I wanted to linger and return. He went above and beyond what would be expected of any server to the point where it felt I was a friend. Thank you for that, Ali!!!
If you’re ever visiting Zermatt, then I recommend you stop by Hotel Alpenhof and look up my friend, Ali. Ask him about his selection of rums other spirits. Tell him Jacob sent you. If the service in the hotel is anything like what I would say try the accommodations there as well.
By the way, Ali was member of the 1998 Macedonia...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed for two nights in Hotel Alpenhof from 20th to 22nd May during our honeymoon. It was a nice stay on the first night as we found respite after we had made a long train journey from Lake Como to Zermatt. All things went relatively okay except for air conditioner’s main switch that was not turned on and the slow draining of water in the bathroom sink and bathtub. Still, we had a comfortable first night. However, things changed on the second night. We discovered that the cold tap had no water when we turn on, leaving us to resort to using the shower head to brush our teeth and wash our faces. It was inconvenient and uncomfortable. What perpetuated the inconvenience was the very slow draining of water in the bathtub which meant we often had to wait 5+ minutes or more for the dirty water to drain off slowly. Staff could not offer us a room change too as all the rooms were booked out.
Additionally, we found that our laundry was not washed even though we had packed it in the laundry bag. We are, however, thankful for the staff for expediting the wash and returning us the clothes at 8am the next morning.
The next day, we had a chat with staff at the front desk. While we appreciated that she waived off the laundry charges, we were surprised by her nonchalant attitude. She had an attitude which seemed to say “i’m so sorry you faced that last night but too bad” when we had asked if there was anything she could do for us to mitigate the negative experience we went through. The only advice we got was to feedback to expedia for reimbursement since we booked through expedia. We definitely understand that and we will reach out to expedia, but we wished she could have been more empathetic about the trouble and inconvenience we went through.
In response, Hotel Alpenhof offered a CHF100 voucher as compensation but we are...
