Arbitrary and ambiguous “Surprise Menu”

DO NOT ORDER the Menu Surprise!!!!! Food was delicious (tiny portions but we accept that) but what was included in Menu Surprise was ambiguous, arbitrary and we feel scammed.

(We asked when we booked the table that we would like to share the menu between two of us, they replied that they do not usually allow this but they will make an exception because it’s not high season.)

We were told when we book the table yesterday that the 6 course Menu surprise comprised of:-

L’amuse bouche (salmon or tomato- after the meal they said it was counted as the first course)⁉️ First course- duck liver Second course- lobster ravioli (3 pieces) Third course- a choice of fish or scallop (one piece- extra course compared to the 4 course menu) Fourth course- beef (5 cubes) ❌Fifth course - pork belly which we did not get (said to be extra course compared to the 4 course menu but actually not the case) Sixth course - dessert (sorbert / ice cream)

Today only when the dessert arrived we noticed that the fifth course (pork belly) was missing .

❗️We were explained that today there is no amuse bouche and the tomato was considered the first course. Hence pork belly was taken out of the whole menu- (meaning we get one course less!) They said as it was a “surprise menu” it was subject to change every day.

So amuse bouche was included on the surprise menu yesterday but not today! Wow. That was very weird and confusing and we felt that was either arbitrary and/ or a scammer.

❗️They have taken advantage of the ambiguity or they would have described what was on the menu.

‼️IF YOU DID DECIDE TO ORDER THE SURPRISE MENU (not recommended), BE SURE TO ASK WHAT EXACTLY WOULD BE SERVED OR YOU COULD GET ONE COURSE LESS.

All in all, overpriced for a CHF 162 menu. For the same budget, we recommend going to Soulfood by Alan Pop- up or Alpine Gourmet.

🔆P.S. You will see from the restaurant reply that they actually did not deny that we are getting one course less compared to the day before. The only ground they are holding on is that “it is subject to...

Superb superb food. Nice relaxing decor. Friendly staff and comfortable homey environment for dining. This restaurant is not located in the main road and probably can be missed if you were not looking for it. Which is a shame because I totally enjoyed my meal here.

We started out with the usual bread with a piece of Matterhorn shaped butter. It was a good introduction to the food to come. The Spaghetti Hummer (lobster) had a creamy thick and seafood flavour packed gravy with delicious pieces of well cooked lobster meat.

The fish looks deceptively simple. Fresh meat, great searing of skin, mashed silky pumpkin with nuts scattered at bottom, the differences and combination of texture was a superb play on the palate.

Entrecote Black Angus was incredibly delicious and well flavoured. Tender juicy meat. I especially loved the layered potato that came with it. Combined with the meat, it was incredible. As for the Tagliata di Manzo, another lovely sliced beef dish. Served on a bed of fresh salad, I found it refreshing and not being a heavy dish, enjoyable to eat.

Finally, Tiramisu. I have never seen tiramisu presented like this. Partially deconstructed, components combined in an eye pleasing manner, it was a perfect end to a delicious meal. If I ever visit around here, I would definitely drop by for...

While looking for gluten free options in Zermatt, we called to ask if they could make accommodations. While they were initially unsure, they actually called back to confirm that the chef had said he would be able to make accommodations. After enjoying our first dinner there, we ended up spending three more meals with them. The unassuming and clean modern look of the restaurant makes the food all the more impressive. The lamb filet mignon melted in the mouth like butter and the parsley risotto was a work of art. The chef adapted the Pollack dish to be gluten free and it was incredible. The chicken breast was juicy and perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce. The entrecôte cubes were delicious and had both delightful outer crust and a perfect pink medium rare inside. All of the gluten free desserts were delicious. The great food was enhanced by the experience of the wonderful team, especially Roman, who always had great recommendations and went out of his way to make sure that the kitchen could make accommodations based on our needs. We enjoyed the restaurant so much that we recommended it to at least four other couples we met during our...

I have been to Michelin 1 and 2 star restaurants that are nowhere near as good as L'Atelier. This was one of our favorite dinners during our 9 days in Switzerland. The restaurant should have Michelin stars, it's that good! Every course was a visual and culinary delight. The restaurant has a fresh and cozy environment with a nice view out the windows of the area. Another huge plus is that the restaurant allows one person to order the tasting menu and others can order dishes off the menu. It's common for Michelin restaurants. They were flexible in how we crafted our 4 or 6 course tasting menu. I like tasting menus but my husband has some dietary restrictions so we were very happy to each get the experience we wanted. We loved our courses so much that we are going again tonight before we leave Zermatt. The owner was kind enough to jot down all the courses we had. to go along with my photos.
