Chef Alain Turns Dinner into an Experience to Remember
I have had the pleasure of dining in restaurants around the world – including Michelin-starred establishments – but it is truly rare to encounter such a seamless combination of outstanding service and exceptional cuisine as I did at Soulfood By Alain. The evening was a birthday surprise for me, and with no expectations upon arrival, I was utterly delighted.
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a friendly waiter who guided us to our table. Shortly after, chef Alain himself appeared, greeting us in a charming and personal way. He enthusiastically presented the full menu (a 4-course dinner with additional palate cleansers) in great detail. This introduction alone set the tone for what turned out to be a memorable dining experience.
Food & Wine The dishes were beautifully presented, flavourful, and made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Each plate was thoughtfully crafted, and Alain delivered a culinary journey where every detail was carefully considered. The wine pairings recommended by the staff were spot on and enhanced the flavours of the dishes perfectly.
Service The service throughout the evening was impeccable. The experience was elevated further when chef Alain returned at the end of the evening to personally say goodbye – a gesture that underlined the restaurant’s commitment to making guests feel special.
Value for Money This dinner was not just a meal but an experience – one that I will remember for a long time. Chef Alain’s concept here in Zermatt stands out as a true highlight of my stay, and I can wholeheartedly recommend Soulfood By Alain to anyone seeking an extraordinary...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of enjoying a menu prepared by Chef Alain in the charming Hotel Chesa Valesa (where Alain currently offers a 3-course menu on Fridays). All in my party of 4 agreed that this evening was a highlight of our long weekend. The dining experience on Fridays is open to 24 guests and they only do one seating for the night, so we were able to relax completely.
Alain put together an amazing menu. The meal started off with a delicious coconut soup that was packed with flavour. Next, I opted for the fish: two large pieces of loup de mer (sea bass) on an asparagus ragout. This dish was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely amazing. The other in my party chose the meat course, which was beef fillet on potatoes and also got raving reviews.
The meal concluded with a cake that that reminded me a bit of a cheesecake and contained passion fruit: a beautiful blend of sweet and tart. I am usually mildly disappointed when desserts do not contain chocolate, but this blew me away.
What is just as impressive as the menu is the fact that Alain runs the whole kitchen himself. He accommodated all of our additional wishes with a smile and was very personable throughout the meal.
I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Zermatt, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in an...
Read moreEvery once in a while, you come across a restaurant that truly masters the art of dining—and this was one of those places. From start to finish, every single course was cleverly composed and perfectly prepared, showcasing both creativity and precision. Each dish felt thoughtfully curated, with flavors that complemented each other beautifully. The service was just as impressive. The staff was not only professional but also warm and personable, making the evening feel special rather than just another dinner out. The chef’s Alain presence and engagement added an extra touch. To top it off, the wine selection was excellent, offering great pairings that enhanced the experience even more. And despite the high level of quality, the pricing was very reasonable—not at all overpriced for the experience provided. A truly memorable evening, and without a doubt, a place...
