This is a good hotel. There are some bad things that make it lose 2 stars in my review, but let's start with the good things. The first one is obviously the location. It is really close to many tourist attractions and restaurants. For its price, the location's convenience is unmatched. The rooms and the common areas on most of the floors are kept very clean, but this isn't true for the first floor. Onto the bad things, I was under the impression that the area where I kept my bag was full of rat poop. I used to have 2 pet rats and those brown shapes sitting on the shelves looked just like rat poop. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and I dismissed it as being something else but on my third day there I saw a family of rats running through the luggage area passing the lobby and into the main road. I even stepped on a small one by mistake, I am not sure if that killed it, I left it near the pool table. This brings me to the second negative thing I have to say about this hotel: I tried to find someone to tell about this for several hours, but there just wasn't anyone around. The rat stayed there for hours. On many occasions I went to the lobby to try to find someone but it looked like a haunted hotel with no one operating it. The promoter was always there but not even he knew where the rest of the staff was. I only interacted with the staff 3 times during my 7 day visit to this hotel. Don't get me wrong, the staff is super nice and helpful, they are polite and they are as helpful as it gets... If you get a hold of them. Final point: I am not sure if this is good or bad, but they will give you a medieval weapon attached to your key that you can use to turn the electricity in your room. It's not very convenient to keep in your pocket but if push comes to shove you can use it as a weapon and inflict blunt force trauma to your opponents. Your safety is ensured as long as you keep your room keys with you, no one is going to mess with you. (I uploaded a picture of the key for your...
Read moreI found StayWithUsGuesthouse when we roamed around Khao San Road area looking for a budget hostel. We had a look at the first hostel but really didn't like it and the already-dirty Bangkok, topped with other dirty hostels drove us away from the main Khao San Road.||||We found this StayWithUsGuesthouse at a little lane from Rambuttri Road, next road parallel to Khao San Road in a little compound (with a shortcut lane towards Khao San) and found a very good English-speaking receptionist, a Filipino guy, Manny. ||||For 200 Baht per night this is an absolute steal to be in the Khao San area. Surrounded with endless restaurants and pubs, this is a good place to base yourself. It was just on the second visit that the reggae bar next door opened so the noise is heard at night but the wild crazy noise of Khao San can't be heard when you prefer to sleep so it's good. Bathrooms are always clean. Towel is not the best and its better to use your own. Sheets and pillows are okay. The mattress, as it is all over Thailand, is a bit hard.||||Only downside is on my second stay, they turned off the airconditioning which left me sweaty all night. I didn't understand if I was placed in a nonaircon room or there's only one room which is airconditioned, I'm not sure. But there was a poster there that says they turn on aircon only from 9pm to 9am. It was midnight but no aircon.||||Anyway, the friendliness of the filipino staff who can speak good English (English is very rare in Thailand, not a big deal but when you need something and an explanation is substantial, language barrier is frustrating) and the location is...
Read moreLooking for a quieter guest house for 2 weeks in Bangkok. Soi Rambuttri has always been busy but not unduly noisy at night and the house is on the quieter end of the street.||||Had to pay over the odds to secure a room for the following day, would not take a deposit or reserve a room. Insisted we turn up at 12 o'clock and take our chance.||||Room extremely basic, very green, with thin curtains, scars where TV had been taken off the ceiling. Bed bases still in tatty plastic wrapping.||No soap or anything other than toilet tissue, no top sheets on beds, just a woolly blanket, in the Bangkok heat?||Air con switched off, its an extra on the B400 charge.||||Early evening they had a singer cum guitar strummer downstairs, where there is a outdoor eatery, who was very good, laid back and quiet. Worked his way through Dylan, Clapton etc and a bit of Pink Floyd. Pleasant to listen too as we lay in bed expecting sleep.||||His accompanist was the staff dragging tables and chairs around aimlessly, changing the layout, adding some, removing some. All pointless as there were no customers.||||When this finished the noisy music from the bars further down the street started up competing with one another, till early morning. The customers finally arrived and had a high old time screaming and giggling until around 2am.||Then it went quiet until the loon with the chairs started again putting some away and rearranging the rest.||||We left as soon as possible after.||||Not to be confused with the Bella Bella Riverview in Samsen 2 area which is a fine...
