I recently tried the new Sindhorn Kempinski hotel which opened in October and it was a pleasant surprise – an excellent addition to the group of luxury hotels in Bangkok. I found our suite to be built to a good standard, it was the most spacious we ever stayed in Bangkok, the service was attentive, and finally the hotel has potential with its wellness theme and spa still under development.
All rooms at Kempinski are quite large to begin with (the entry level room is 66 sqm) and the Exec Club Room I booked was 80 sqm. We stayed in the Grand Exec Suite which was 145 sqm including two bedrooms and 1.5 bath. With all things considered of the 40 different hotels we stayed in Bangkok in the past, this suite at Kempinski was probably the second nicest room we ever had, right behind the Astoria Suite at Waldorf.
Our Grand Exec Suite had a very large living / dining area with a full kitchen and one advantage over the Astoria Suite at WA is that Kempinski had a large balcony whereas there is no outdoor sitting area at WA. I found the Grand Exec Suite to be very well built including nice hardwood floors and thick walls + doors.
Service was generally quite good during our stay especially considering the hotel is still fairly new. Before our stay at Kempinski we were staying next door at Kimpton and I was curious to see Kempinski so we walked there one morning just to look at the hotel. It was not even our check-in day but when I told staff that we were staying at Kimpton they knew my name right away which was impressive. During the stay service was quite attentive and they are clearly eager to improve as it’s still a new hotel and frequently asking for feedback. I saw a few staff members who used to work at WA – they hired staff with experience working in a luxury hotel. The GM also stopped by to greet us one morning and he also reached out to me after our stay by e-mail to ask for our feedback.
Breakfast was entirely a la carte and to match with the wellness theme of the hotel, there were several healthy type dishes including freshly pressed juices. The rainbow bowl was a unique dish not found in other hotels in the city and we enjoyed it, but for the rest of the menu I would say it could get fairly repetitive during a long stay for people who prefer Asian options rather than a western breakfast.
Unfortunately the Club Lounge was not open due to a lack of guests and they provided executive benefits in a separate part of the restaurant. This was a bummer because for me the value of the lounge is not only food & beverage but also having a nice quiet and private place to relax or have a drink and also where I tend to make miscellaneous service requests (rather than ask staff near reception). The drinks menu during happy hour was good quality including cocktails, sparkling wine and spirits, whereas the hors d’oeuvres were so-so and not on par with some other lounges in the city for example JW Marriott or Athenee (Luxury Collection, Marriott). As part of the club benefits, they also served afternoon tea with some sandwiches and desserts.
The hotel will have a large spa which was only partially open at this time but I got a tour of the facilities. In various treatment rooms they will have advanced equipment for different kinds of massages. One part of the spa which was open was the Thermal Experience which included an aroma steam room, a Finnish sauna at 80C, a bio sauna, and a cold room at -5C, all of which were great to try.
My main takeaway is that this hotel is solid in various ways: the rooms are good quality, we had more space available than we could handle, service was on par with luxury hotels, breakfast was decent, and the spa gives the hotel an edge over competitors by providing a dimension that others do not have. For people who value having a spacious luxury room you cannot go wrong here because even the basic room is bigger than many other 5-star hotels' premium rooms...

I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I hope this account is fair and is constructive in tone.
I recently stayed at the Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel in Bangkok with a friend, booking two rooms for two nights, at a considerable cost of GBP 2,528.40 / 114786 THB. The hotel boasts stunning architecture, luxurious amenities, and a commendable staff, yet my experience was marred by significant disappointments, particularly during busy periods.
Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the lobby's grand architecture and abundance of natural light. The receptionist, Silporn, warmly welcomed us and provided an excellent tour of the hotel, leading us to our rooms on the 17th floor. The rooms were impeccably designed, with thoughtful touches such as complimentary fruit and snacks, plush towels, and high-quality toiletries. I must commend the diligent housekeeping team, especially Aoy, who ensured my room was always immaculate, even taking care to organize my computer cables.
The spa experience was truly exceptional, with world-class treatments provided by skilled therapists like Khun Tang, affectionately known as "Cucumber." The spa facilities were clean, relaxing, and well-maintained, contributing to a rejuvenating stay.
However, the hotel's infrastructure revealed some glaring flaws. The elevators, limited to three on each side of the building, were insufficient to accommodate the volume of guests and floors they served. This resulted in frustratingly long wait times and uncomfortably hot conditions, undermining an otherwise luxurious experience.
The dining options, including the Japanese restaurant and high tea in the lobby, were delightful culinary experiences, showcasing delicious cuisine and exquisite presentation.
Regrettably, my most significant complaint pertains to the hotel breakfast. On a Monday morning, we were asked to wait in the lobby for 45 minutes before being seated in the breakfast restaurant, despite having paid for breakfast as part of our stay. This unacceptable delay, especially in a luxury hotel of this caliber, left us feeling rushed and disappointed. While the duty manager offered a partial refund, it was inadequate considering the substantial amount we had spent.
In conclusion, while the Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel offers many impressive features, its shortcomings during busy periods significantly detract from the overall experience. I sincerely hope the management addresses these issues to maintain the hotel's reputation for excellence. Despite my reservations, I acknowledge the hard work of the staff and the hotel's potential for improvement. Should these concerns be addressed, I would gladly reconsider and update my review. Until then, I caution prospective guests against visiting during peak times, as the facilities may struggle to accommodate the influx of visitors.
Sincerely,
Phil Anthony UK...
Read moreModern brand new hotel with large luxurious rooms. Stayed for three nights at the beginning of February. We ordered and paid for a room on November 5th and asked to be given only a high floor! But when we checked into the Hotel in the Club on the 19th floor, we were given the lowest - 05th floor, 20 floors in total. They said that everything was busy and did not even offer to exchange the next day. Club floors are located from 03 to 11 floors. PROS (+): 1). Modern large rooms. 2). Good and varied breakfasts. 3). A good variety of dishes in the Club in the evening from 17:30 to 20:00. 4). The staff at the Club is very friendly, welcoming and attentive. Everyone looks nice and beautiful. CONS (-): 1). Disgusting mold, fungus and mildew in the shower stall under the bench (see photo)! And this is in a new hotel that opened its doors in May 2020 - what a creepy scum! 2). Many people come to the buffet breakfast at Flourish in white bedroom slippers from the hotel (see photo) + it’s so noisy at all, like at a market! 3). At the Club in the evening, during Evening Cocktails, there is no dress code and people come in sportswear, beach shoes - flip-flops, and even white slippers! 4). Also in the Club during Evening Cocktails from 17:30 to 20:00 we saw a lot of children under the age of 12 running around the Club and disturbing everyone, as well as grabbing food from the tables! 5). On the first day at the Hotel, during High Tea time, we were given two dirty cups for tea. We asked the employee to replace these two dirty cups for us, the employee took a long time to choose, but still found clean ones for us. 6). Also on the second day, during High Tea, we took a cake - Cranberry Scone, which was unbaked - with raw dough inside (see photo). We also pointed this out to the employees, after which they apologized and removed the entire tray with these cakes. Why don't cooks taste and test their dishes before serving them to customers? Is this not accepted at Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok?!
It’s a pity that the main management of the Hotel is completely indifferent to the situation in the Club Lounge! According to the Hotel rules, children under 12 years old are not allowed into the Club from 18:30 to 20:00 and guests of the Club Lounge must wear Smart Casual dress code. But, as we have seen, all these rules are totally ignored, and the girls who work at the Club cannot or do not want to do anything about it! The brand new Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok has turned into a beach hostel, where beds are offered to share with unkempt, noisy guests who wear sports uniforms, flip-flops and white bedroom slippers to Evening Cocktails, and their children run everywhere and grab food from the common plates of the buffet table. This is just terrible and absolutely not a...
