I booked and paid in advance for 6 nights at Hotel Sultan Hill. On arrival they couldn't find my booking. Eventually they gave me a room. It was a super hot day and after a long journey I wanted a shower. There was no water. Even the toilet wouldn't flush. This was not the fault of the hotel, I was advised plumbing works were in progress in the street. Ok. However the staff really didn't care and offered no solution. One night I was out late with friends, the receptionist called my personal mobile phone to ask where I was. Inappropriate. In the afternoon of day 3, after my room had not been cleaned once yet I requested new towels. Another morning the owner proceeded to scold me for going out late and coming back early. I am a 50 year old woman! His reasoning, after I suggested he was not my father, was that they were waiting for me to return to clean my room. What?! You wait for the guest to be insitu to clean? They did not then clean my room. On the morning of check out, I was getting myself ready. Thankfully I was already dressed. I hear my door unlock. I go to greet whom I expect to be housekeeping, marvelling that they come on my last morning. No, it was another guest. She stared at me, bewildered that I was in "her" room. Turns out she confused which floor she was on and went to what she thought was her door on autopilot. No problem except that HER ROOM KEY OPENED MY DOOR!!! (The keys are keys not cards.) We proceeded to have surprise and concern and further tested our keys. They opened all the other guest doors. I am shocked and stunned at the blatant corruption this hotel runs on. Their explanation was "it's a master key". One's mind only has to wander slightly to be concerned by what might have been planned and what could have occurred. Do not stay here. You and your property...
Read moreGreat location, amazing breakfast, helpful employees and terrific owner!
I visited Istanbul in March and stayed here for almost a week, enjoyed their breakfast every morning - woke up early just to treat myself with the home made jams and variety of bread and spreads and so many options! The rooms are welcoming and cozy - I was lucky to have a room with the view of the Blue Mosque (unfortunately under construction when I was visiting). The terrace is lovely - with seating arrangement - you can have enjoy the water view. The lovely housekeeping staff ensured my room was clean and bed ready everyday without fail. The gentlemen at the front desk have been helpful since I landed in Istanbul - with following up on my pick up to answering all questions - English is widely spoken by staff. The owner is the most helpful person I have met in a long time! He is someone who will go above and beyond to ensure your comfort. I just mentioned I needed the lab test completed, boom! he arranged for someone to come over and take my samples and even kept a copy of the results ready for me when I returned after sight seeing that day. I mentioned I wanted to see the Whirling Dervishes, bam! he made a phone call and told me the availability and arranged my tickets. Ask him for the directions to somewhere and you will have the most cost and time effective route within seconds. If you need anything - just let him know - he will not disappoint. Having stayed there for a week, I was not looking forward to leaving. 12/10 will stay whenever...
Read moreZero stars. We arrived late at night and was given our room on the top floor, bear in mind there’s no lifts at this place so you’ll be carrying your suitcases and luggage up flights of stairs yourself. |Our room he gave us, it absolutely stank in there, like an open sewage and gutter, unbearable, unbreathable stink, we went to tell the person at reception and he gave us an air freshener and said he’ll fix it in the morning. Worst night ever. In the morning, he said he’ll change our room for us, however he said all rooms are occupied and we have to wait 2/3 hours until another family has checked out and the room has been cleaned. He told us the reason why our room stinks is because his last guest that stayed there had a dog and he believed the guests put dog waste down the drains. He knew our room had problems but he still gave us that room with no consideration, it was disgusting and he still offered it to us- paying guests. |We wasted our morning looking for new hotels in the area so we could move, to spend the remainder of our 4 night stay in sultanahment, finally we found one close by and we left, he still charged us for the crap night we had in the stinky room. |His general behaviour was rude, inconsiderate, unwelcoming. Generally the hotel is very very cramped, stinks, cluttered, dirty, very run down. Please avoid this problematic place, it will only give you problems and ruin your visit to Istanbul, there are better and reasonable priced places to stay very close to the...
