Sultamahmet |SULTAN TUGHRA HOTEL and some tourist information.|Room only|We stayed for 5 nights and found the room we had was more than adequate. It has a large double bed with another bed on a magazine floor above for extra accomodation if needed. |The hotel used to be a Sultans house ang the decor reflected this. It is very opulent with a mirror tiled ceiling|over the bed. Very bohemian. The continental/Turkish breakfast was very nice with lots of choices. Maria the cook can prepare eggs to your choice.|The sultan is situated in a side street to the Old Town within 5 to 10 min walk of all the main tourist attractions. Turn LEFT when leaving and then turn RIGHT at the crossroads and under the bridge. If you turn LEFT at the next crossroads and walk up the road and go through the Bazaar entrance arch. To go to the Blue Mosque and the Haig Sofia, Turn RIGHT and up the steps in front. Turn LEFT and walk towards the Tram Station, about 300 meters in front. This is SUTANAMET CENTER. You pass both these tourist sites on either side. Just ask someone.||THE BLUE MOSQUE.| The Blue Mosque has recently lost its Museum title and the ground floor is now reserved for Muslim prayers. The rest of the building is still open to the public and still has the beautiful gold tile murals of Christian themes on the walls and ceiling. Look out for the one high up nearly hidden by a beam. DO ware appropriate clothing for both these sites or you will have to suffer the indignity of hiring covering which might spoil your photo shoots.Head scarves , shoulder coverings and, either medium length skirts or trousers for the women. and shorts or trousers below the knee for the men. You can beat the que by downloading the QR codes displayed for about 40 Euros each, or wait in line for cheaper options without the frills. I think we paid about 20 Euros each, Senior citizens ,no audio. Well worth the visit.||The Haig Sophia|In our opinion its a must see, just to see the opulent wealth in gold and diamonds of the old Ottoman Empire.|When entering the grounds, walk Straight past the que on the left. This is for the Small Church Entrance fee. After about a 100 metres further on will be a que for the entrance fee to the Haih Sophia, with a SECOND que a few metres on. I think it was about 35 Euros each. Tip# If your paying in euros CASH , DON'T wait in the que, but go straight to the last window on the LEFT, which takes cash only, and is usually available. Don't QUÉ anyway for the First window on the RIGHT as this is for Audio returns.|The second qué mentioned is for the FREE AUDIO.|They require your Passports or 100 Dollars deposit for the equipment. Be Prepared. Or don't bother like us.|TIP#2. If you have Internet on your phone you only need to download the QR code shown and use with or without ear buds.|TIP#3|Go to the treasury first. This is at the back and to the rear. Just ask a guard.||TIP 3#|The Camlica Mosque |The best free ,almost!, tourist attraction in Istanbul. £5 for a couple return.|A must see.|The new largest Mosque on Asian side of Istanbul.|From the previously mentioned Tram station, buy an Istanbul travel card from a ticket machine. They both go to Eminonu, but one stops off just before going on to Eminonu. Just make sure it's Eminonu docks before you depart. |That's it. There loads more to see in Istanbul. We hope you find our information useful.|Regards|Colin and Ann...
Read moreThis is a 1/2 star hotel at best, extremely disappointed with our experience here never had to deal with a missold holiday property. Please read most recent reviews it is an outdated property with rude staff and lack of amenities. Never have I ever checked out of a hotel early because of how unhygienic and unimpressed I was with the difference between what is advertised on the websites vs how outdated the hotel actually is. |Short reasons why:|- Unpleasant rooms and bathrooms that are unkempt |- Brown splashes on the ceiling above where you sleep |- Dirty walls |- Rusted bathroom metallurgy |- Broken mirror |- A hairdryer that is from 2005 that has a filament that heats up red when used and has to turn itself off every 5 minutes to cool down |- Bathroom hooks are swivelling when you hang something on them |- You could turn the bathroom tap 360 degrees because it was so ill fitted/ready to come off entirely - Wallpaper coming off the walls |- Worn out sofa in the room |- Mezzanine floor is only 1 metre in height such that the bed is actually just a mattress on the floor, we bumped our heads every time we got up|- No kettle, cups or spoons provided in the rooms|- Outdated|- Rude staff - we were told upon asking for some cups (because maybe they weren't provided in the room in the first place) and a butter knife that we were asking for 'too much'|- Asked where we are 'originally from' when asking for milky tea.|- Gave us 2 towels to share between 4 of us|- Did not replace toiletries which ran out in the bathroom when housekeeping cleaned it everyday|- Christmas decor is still up -...
Read moreSmall rooms but well appointed. Comfortable and decorated in a lovely Turkish Style.|The whole hotel is snug but that does not make it any less comfortable. Rooms are small but with comfy beds there is a lot to commend this hotel. We were upgraded to a larger room (not sure why, but happy to do so) although we would have been happy enough staying where we were as we knew what to expect.|Staff are extremely helpful and friendly with plenty of recommendations and able to answer and and all questions asked of them.|The rooms are clean and tidy with a reasonably priced (for Istanbul) mini fridge. |The only non-positive comments on the rooms here were that the bathrooms would benefit from a deep clean of the tile grout, they are not terrible but that would have made all the difference. The other thing is that some of the electric sockets could do with refitting. |Neither of these things were a big problem and we would still stay here.|Breakfast was simple but with plenty of choice and the lady looking after the room would make eggs to order. Try her cheese omelette - lovely.|Also, during the day, they will make you tea or coffee if you ask as there are none of these in the rooms - which is actually better in my opinion.|The area the hotel is in is quiet but with several restaurants and bars within (literally) one minute's walk. However, there is no significant noise and being in some tiny streets, traffic tends to be light. |I would recommend this hotel and I will be happy to...
