Read moreThis restaurant is one to avoid. Due to the attitude of our server (Chiara was her name shown on the bill), it didn't take long for our party of four to feel that we were unwelcome guests. What tourist would know that a paper QR code posted by the front door needed to be scanned to get the menu or that being in a shadow it wouldn't scan properly by any of our phones. Drinks were ordered and after requesting a printed menu a single set of poorly printed stapled pages was tossed on the table. Had we not already ordered drinks including beers and a bottle of wine, we would have left at that point. We asked for milk for our toddler but were told curtly that "No" they did not have milk! Frankly we concluded that the server was having a particularly bad day as we did not want to believe there was any discrimination towards us at play (tourists? seniors? foreigners? child with us? not one of the "regulars"?). Our meals arrived after some time. The food itself was average; nothing particularly noteworthy (calzone, salsicca e friarielli, diavola, 4 formaggi, margherita). Our server went to the back not to be seen by us again and a second server took over our table. We were not inclined to linger, paid the bill, did not dispute the 10% "Discretionary Service Charge” and left promptly, agreeing to post this detail of our experience. We find the many positive posts here for this restaurant...

We had pizzas Ortolana 26 and Vivaci and were thoroughly impressed by the quality of the dough, the ingredients and the overall presentation. We also liked the range of classic and modern pizza topping choices.
We were sat in the basement and the atmosphere was good, but if you had noisy neighbours like we did it does trap the sound in there with you.
A couple of things I noted were that the restaurant gave us dipping sauce for the pizza without asking but then charged us for it. It was very good sauce and we ate it all, so no complaints here, just an observation.
Also, for those who are pernickity about what they eat and like to change things around, there are certain pizzas the chef will refuse to make alterations to (different sauces and toppings etc), although there aren't many where they do that. I overheard the waiter explaining this to another diner, and was quite impressed that they did that rather than just make it. I thought it was good to see, but some might find it annoying.
Overall, I wouldn't...
