We arrived to the hotel, and walked up 5 flights of stairs to access the room, which felt like an afterthought of a room in the attic. It was tiny, with barely room to walk between the beds, the ceiling was so low, my 5ft11 husband had to duck to walk around, which was not how the pictures depicted it. I've seen larger bathrooms in airplanes, and the shower was so small that my average sized husband couldn't even fit in it. It was incredibly hot due to it being in the attic space, and the fans did not help. We found a dirty sock sticking out from under one of the beds, a dirty piece of toilet paper behind one of the beds, and the bed quality so awful, we couldn't sleep. Our bed had actual springs sticking out of it!! Upon leaving the attic room, the stairs on the way down were being dripped on from an open skylight, and towels were laid down on the carpeted stairs to catch the water. It was, by far, the worst room we have ever stayed in, and we have traveled extensively throughout the world. We complained to management early the following morning (July 5), and the manager, Alan, then told us if we checked out ASAP, that they would re-list the room online to try to get it rented out for the next 2 days, and we would get a refund for those 2 days once it was re-rented. I checked online repeatedly that day, and they never re-listed the room. They failed to deliver on their promise, and now they are accusing me of blackmail as I am sharing my frustrations with them and their failure to deliver, indicating that if I go to social media, they will report me to the police. They are threatening me! This has been the most awful hotel experience weâve ever had, with their lies and threats. *Update based on their response: I understand that everybodyâs version of ârectifyingâ a situation is different, but doing absolutely nothing and threatening your guest is absolutely unacceptable. We are not from Palm Springs (in fact, I was raised in Spain, but currently reside in the US), and donât have high expectations, especially since we are very well traveled and understand spaces are different depending on the country we are visiting. We just expected a somewhat comfortable bed to sleep in and a clean room we could actually stand tall in without hitting our heads. I have never given such a poor review, but I want to be sure that the next guest knows what to expect in reference to the room and customer service. Thankfully, we found a lovely hotel down the street at a lower price than your space, so it all...
Read moreMelita House Hotel was booked for my be a company I visited in business and it was a big disappointment.
The bad: -Room was super small (no more than 6 square meters) - really claustrophobic -No air conditioning -To enter the room - 1st you have to open fire door, than the actual door - all in a very tight space - never seen anything like that before - it is uncomfortable! -Old, unevenly glued wallpaper in the room, looked shabby! -Floor in the room was not level, therefore bed was not level - I felt like falling off all the time -No quilt on the bad - just some sheets + blanket (I understand it was July, but still...) -Every piece of furniture and equipment looked old and worn, especially bathroom fittings -Leaking shower (10 minutes of shower and there was water all around the bathroom floor) -No free WiFi (in 2014 that seems like a standard) -VERY poor breakfasts - no buffet, very small selection of what you could have - full English breakfast, some cereal and some egg variations. Forget about reasonable selection of foods you could count on in any chain hotel -dirty door opening card
The good: -Close to the centre of London -the place was generally clean -staff was friendly
In general - if the same stuff worked in a better hotel - the experience would have been nice. But the place is old, worn and cheaply run, so don't expect any extras that seem standard in any other hotel these days. If the location isn't all that matters - choose any other place to spend your...
Read moreMy room was in the basement and I was lead down a tight stairwell and through a claustrophobic warren of corridors to a small room in the back. The bathroom in particular was hard to navigate in the small space-- I don't know how a person larger than my (average) size would even cope. With one exception the staff is really lovely-- welcoming, professional, friendly. But unfortunately the woman who checked me in was a disappointment. When I saw the room I asked if at least it was quiet. The floors were made of cheap vinyl and I worried from past experiences that I would hear people moving around above me. She assured me there was no one in the room above. I unpacked. And then heard plenty of noise above me. I stopped at the front desk on my way out to dinner to report the noise and she insisted what I heard was just her popping into the luggage room above me and she said it wouldn't happen again. When I returned to my room about 9 pm the noise continued. I stayed up with AirPods watching Netflix until it finally got quiet around 11:30. I had to do this both nights of my stay. And both mornings I was awakened before my 7am alarm by noisy activity above. I certainly won't be going back. There were a few pluses: most of staff is truly lovely, there is excellent morning coffee + pastries, and the hotel in a beautiful , safe, well-located, walkable...
