“Gates of Hell” at Purgatory Bar Escape Room – A Hellishly Good Time for My 20th Birthday

I celebrated my 20th birthday at Purgatory Bar Escape Room, and choosing the Gates of Hell experience was the best decision I could’ve made. From the moment we entered, it was like being dropped into a horror movie—creepy visuals, eerie sounds, and puzzles that twisted our minds in the best possible way. The atmosphere was dark and immersive, and the adrenaline rush was unreal.

What truly made the night unforgettable was Mariana, our amazing game master. She struck the perfect balance between staying in character and helping us just enough to keep the momentum going. Her timing, energy, and attention to detail made the whole experience feel alive—like we were really fighting our way out of hell. She made my birthday feel extra special, and I can’t thank her enough.

If you’re looking for a unique, high-energy escape room with unforgettable scares and brilliant design, Gates of Hell is a must. And if you get Mariana as your game master? Consider yourself blessed.

Good escape room. We've done a lot, and this was one of the best thematic designs for sure! However, a couple small but important things would have been needed for us to give 5 stars. Twice in the room we solved the puzzle but didn't realise - something popped open with magnets. Having some kind of sound or a flash of lights that signals we finished a pizzle would have added to the experience, as we often thought we had done the puzzles slightly wrong instead of realising they were complete. Another puzzle had two versions which wasted a lot of time on the decoy - so you solve the puzzle and then have to resolve which detracts from the experience, especially with a finnecky puzzle. Great theme, great room...

Fun and unique experience, would highly recommend! The hosts are very friendly and funny, which made the experience more immersive. Some of the puzzles are of a different style from those I did in other escape rooms, so if you like to think out of the box, this is for you! The hosts were so nice and gave us hints at the right moment to guide us back on track, and we managed to escape in the end! The hosts also offered to help you take a photo in the end and email you, which is a bonus.
