I was looking for:||* a place that was situated very close to the centre of London (10-15 minute walk away), ||* close to a major train station where we could come into London from Hampshire (Victoria - 10 minutes away) ||* close to the underground (Victoria and Pimlico - Zone 2 and 10 minutes away). I planned to stay in London from Tuesday to Thursday with my two children and see the sights. ||* I needed free wifi ||* I wanted luggage storage so I could get into London early, dump the bags off and see London then return later to check in and also at the end, check out, leave the luggage, spend the day in London, then collect the luggage and go home in the evening.||* I wanted somewhere clean with comfortable beds and private washing/showering facilities.||* And above all, I needed it to be as cheap as possible.||||This hotel met all over the above criteria. After researching, I found that anything else in this location would have cost much, much more. On the understanding that you get what you pay for, I came to the hotel with suitably set expectations and yes, it was scruffy, damaged in places and under-maintained, but it was clean, quiet, with nice bed linen and towels, a good shower and very friendly and helpful staff. The wifi worked and my family and I all slept well, ready for another day in London. There is nothing more I could have asked of the place. Like I say, you get what you pay for but I feel the hotel really delivered in all the important ways it should have. If you set your expectations accordingly, then perhaps it will work out for you too as well as it did for us (my two teenage...
Read moreWas originally booked into the Golden Star Hotel down the road from this 'Hotel', to be told that after bit of light rain there was several rooms that were "water damaged", and had to be placed elsewhere.
We were shown down the road to the Limegrove Hotel, which ended up through a few doors which looked like private (potentially staff) areas, into a room that was marked with nothing more than a 'z' scraped into the key and the door.
Upon entering the room, is became apparent that we were actually in half a room. From looking at the ceiling decoration it was clear that at one point the room next door was actually part of the same room, explaining why it was so amazingly small. There were two single beds, not even pushed together even though we'd requested a double, and had to put the chairs on one bed to be able to move them together it was that small. It was old, worn, and I've stayed in nicer youth hostels.
The shared toilet was also terrible and stank. Hot water was all it had going for it.
Breakfast was delivered to the door (hot drink, toast, corn flakes), and was ok, although very basic and no choice other than tea or coffee).
Location is great, really handy for the Victoria transport exchange and other central London sights, but that's pretty much all it's got going for it.
Overall? I'd have preferred to have paid less and stayed in a Youth Hostel, as at least you're getting what...
Read moreThe place is a dump. It falls short of just basic accommodations. TV's don't work "because of windy weather" and lady was nice enough to move me to another room (on the third floor dragging luggage upstairs was fun). A full bed was just two twins pushed together was actually a bit comical tbh. Shower was down the hall and had to be quick because the drain was clogged and water was overflowing. I told management and it wasn't something they got on right away. Next day, same issue. Restroom on the third floor is a closet where you can barely squeeze in and I'm not a large person so if you have long legs then better be on top of your yoga.
It's in Chelsea and walking distance to Victoria bus station as well as some good restaurants and Buckingham Palace and so forth but not worth the stay. The owners were really nice people at least and although I hate to give them a bad review, they did take my money and they are running a business so there's that. Bottom line is you get what you pay for and when you choose to go low budget you roll the dice and take...
