My family (husband, myself, two kids, and my in-laws) stayed here over this Labor Day weekend. Given that it was a holiday weekend and we, along with numerous other guests, were there for a football game, we assumed the hotel would be in top shape and ready to go.
Our first impression was made by the less than friendly evening desk crew. The woman’s responses were short and curt, and she acted like we were a nuisance. As we checked in, she also mentioned that the pool was green and closed. Not something we wanted to hear after traveling all day with two small kids who had been babbling about swimming through the entire car ride. We asked if there was a sister hotel who would allow us to swim, and they said that there was another Marriott hotel down the street, but they weren’t sure if they had a pool and told us they guessed we could call and ask, though. No offer for the staff themselves to call on our behalf. (Thanks to TownePlace Suites for taking pity on us and letting our kids come over and swim! Michael was super nice and helpful!!)
Once we made it up the only working and very questionable elevator, the rooms didn’t do much to make up for the attitude of the staff. While the sheets were clean, at least, the rest of the room wasn’t. There was hair, dirt, etc. in every corner, and the carpet had multiple stains and fraying spots. The sofa bed was paper thin and felt like it was caving in every time you moved on it, and the regular beds weren’t much better, with very rough and worn sheets and bedding.
Even though there were four of us in our room, there were only three, very small towels, and we repeatedly had to ask for more, since housekeeping doesn’t come due to covid protocols. We asked the front desk if there was a simpler system, and they said to set our dirty towels out in the hall in the morning. We did, and they were removed but no replacements were given.
The pool was back to blue on our second day, and despite its cloudiness, we took the kids swimming since they had been begging to go. No swim towels were available, and we had to ask the front desk how to get in to the gate, as the key scanner didn’t work. No one else knew how either—we had to help multiple other guests get in. A sign to let everyone know would be super helpful. The pool is tiny. Any more than six or seven people felt like a crowd, and the water was warm enough to be bath water. There were two tables outside, one with a broken umbrella and one whose umbrella was coated in dirt and in desperate need of a spray down with a hose. Little things that could be easily remedied and would do a lot to improve the appeal of the pool area.
I will say, the morning staff we encountered each day was significantly friendlier and more helpful than the evening crew! They were super sweet to my kids, and one of the ladies who was keeping food stocked for breakfast was so patient with my 6-year-old, who was completely in her way and not paying the slightest bit of attention.
The hotel overall, just feels like it’s in a general state of disrepair. Large patches of tiles are missing outside in front of the lobby, the elevator creaks like it’s going to give out, a giant carpet roll was in the hall on the first floor, the door going out to the pool area had to be shoved with a whole lot of force and made an awful scraping sound when it opened…the list goes on.
If we had planned to stay at a cheap, cut rate hotel, none of these things would have been surprising. However, for what the rooms cost and for something with the Marriott brand stamped on it, we expected quite a bit more. If you’re coming to the area anytime soon, I’d suggest skipping this place and going down the street to TownePlace...
Read moreWhen I usually travel, I do stay at Marriot family of hotels. When I was booking a hotel that was close to my family's house, we decided on this one. First of all when you pulled in, you could tell this hotel must have been 2 or 3 other hotels brands in the past. They have started to remodel this hotel. I will give them an A for effort, but a C for execution. The first King Suite they put us in had a broken AC unit. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. If I was reviewing just the employees, they would be 5 stars. There was a ceiling fan in our room that also did not work. An older gentleman came to our room to verify that the AC was not working and the ceiling fan was not working. The moved us to the room across the hall. The AC in our new room worked perfectly, but the ceiling fan in this room still did not work. This hotel has a gym, but has 2 treadmills and 2 sets of dumbbells. I had figured I would not be using the hotel gym since I had a gym membership that allowed me to work out elsewhere.
The room was overall comfortable. The bed was firm, but not so hard you could not sleep on it. We did bring our own pillows since we have found that some hotels have gone to these smaller than standard pillows. The pillows here were standard sized. They had remodeled the bathrooms with a walk in shower like they have in those "remodel your bathroom in one day". I was pleasantly surprised. When you signed in you could get "standard" WIFI. I was a tad bit nervous just using that since I did bring my work laptop. I did run a speed test on it and it was much faster than I was expecting. The next day I heard one of the guys checking our original room and he said, "Yup. This is an old AC unit and the curtains are blocking the airflow." I was impressed that I did not have to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign out because we did not need Housekeeping the first night we stayed. You can request Housekeeping. If you do not request it, they will not clean your room.
I did like the fact that you could have your room key set to your phone and use the Bonvoy app to open your door, so you did not really need a key. I did not go down to check out their breakfast options. By the time I got to the lobby, there was nothing out. I will have to see what options are available in the morning. Overall, this was a comfortable stay. The SpringHill Suites does have a little work to do to bring this hotel up to par. It is a work in progress. The hotel...
Read moreMe & my 8 month old baby checked in this hotel this past Saturday originally for 3 nights but once I was Able to check out the rooms, I was very disappointed. I got to the hotel at 5pm. I like To look around the room when I check In to make sure it’s up to my standard. The room I was Assigned first had a weird stinky smell, the light didn’t work and would flicker when I cut It on, on top of the lights already being dim. I told the front desk person and he gave me a different room and to no avail I was Still disappointed. The new room had the same weird smell. The hotel already had a smell in the halls but got worse when you go inside the room. The room was funky smelling, the couch was dinted in and had stains on it, the lighting was dim, the TV apps were not working & the network connection was down. I was not settled or comfortable so I wanted To leave & go to another hotel. So first the front desk person said some rooms the tv work & some rooms the tv doesn’t. Then he said he talk to the manager & she said all the tv didn’t work. So I asked To cancel my stay so I can Go to a different Marriott hotel & he said I cannot. I will still be charged for one night because it was after 5pm despite my concerns & comfort. I told Him I didn’t Even check in until 5 pm, wasn’t even there a full 2 hours! I have A baby & was not pleased! I feel I was Forced to stay there against my will because he still charge me for one night. I called Corporate on Monday & spoke to someone name Amber and she said someone from the hotel will reach out to me. It’s Wednesday and no one has reached out to me. I should Not have been charged for even one day when I wanted To leave & respectfully expressed my concerns. During that one night, I hear kids running down the hallways, sounded like someone was at my door, I smelled marijuana that night. I am Very displeased because the hotel did not understand my concerns and corporate was no help either. My other 2 nights in Dallas I went To a Hilton hotel and felt MUCH BETTER. It had no smell, they had Lysol wipes in the room, the lights worked & the tv worked! I’ve never had this experience with Marriott so I am very disappointed & should have been...
