We stop off in Ashland on our way to our coastal home. We've stayed at a couple of places but continue to look for just the right place. I think we found it now. Location is great, walking distance to Lithia Park and all the nearby shopping as well as restaurants/bars. We received a call from Adam the day before our arrival, checking to see what time we might arrive. He does this as it is necessary to plan for making sure guests are greeted, given a quick orientation to the property and their accommodations and generally made to feel welcome. As a courtesy to the Lemons, try to let them know when you might arrive. They do their best to make sure your stay is comfortable and relaxing. Our room was the Garden Room located at the back end of the house adjacent to the parking lot. Initially there was a thought (momentarily, really) that it might be noisy but realizing that all the guests would be checking in early, it was cast aside. The only thing we heard was the rain in the early morning. A King bed, private en suite bathroom, TV, coffee/tea maker and quiet location. How nice can it get? Truly comfortable and relaxing. Morning came, I headed out to the front porch with coffee in hand. Adam was busy sweeping the leaves that had blown in that evening. Nice conversation in the morning sun with a front porch looking out to the eastern mountains. I was glad I had nowhere to go as I watched the truly light traffic flow by. Main street is not a heavily trafficked street on Sunday morning. Breakfast is naturally a communal affair. It was sumptuous. We started with a yogurt fruit parfait accompanied by an Apricot Bran muffin, made by Susan. This was followed by a breakfast casserole (i am not sure what else I could call it). Individual servings of a mince (sausage for Americans), potato, egg and cheese baked to perfection with a avocado / tomato salad to cleanse the palate. Should I open a restaurant I will seek to hire Susan as a breakfast consultant. Conversation with other guests was fascinating for an out of towner. All seemed to have come for the theater offerings and they had great insights into the greater Portland theater scene. There apparently is thriving theater in Oregon, at least along the I-5 corridor. Okay, wrapping up, stay here. You will be treated kindly, your hosts are accommodating, attentive and cordial. They make sure to offer local tips and opportunities as well as making sure your stay...
Read moreWe found this place as the midway point driving between the San Francisco Bay Area and Portland. Wow—we have never stayed at a BNB as comprehensively and thoughtfully furnished as Abigail’s!
Checkin was clear and quick by Susan, the co owner, who had kindly baked huge chocolate chip cookies and prepared a tea for us, even turning on the tea kettle again as she left us so we could have hot water when we wanted it.
A super charming exterior cheerily lit up by Xmas lights, outdoor patio with rocking chairs, set amidst tall trees but only a 3 minute ride/15 minute walk from downtown Ashland stores and restaurant. Fresh NY Times in the charming dining room, small library and various board games as well as local tour guides and brochures.
Beyond the amazing huge chocolate chip cookies baked by Susan, we had all day access to complimentary chips, candies, chocolate, a huge assortment of teas, hot chocolate, coffee, fresh apples, three local wine choices at an honor bar, free sodas and chilled water in the guest refrigerator (where we stored dinner leftovers, and an amazing cooked to order breakfast. Susan baked a gluten free almond tart with whipped cream and fresh mint, followed by a French omelet with asparagus, leeks and cream cheese with bacon and fresh made waffles. Best in class food cooked with TLC!
Rooms (we got two adjoining upstairs), had full scale Victorian look, with super comfy beds. Again, thoughtfulness was fully apparent, with In room Keurig coffee maker, biscuits, water carafe, and for any sensitive guests (though unnecessary even for this light sleeper), two pairs of packaged earplugs and a bolster to put at the bottom of the door in case light from the hallway was bothersome. Lots of Direct TV and movie channels.
Bathrooms had lavish hot water and shower water pressure, with infrared lamps for chilly nights, and all toiletries amenities provided. Even a little rubber ducky!
Beautiful century old building with great character and comfy feel (no ghosts lol, we slept like babies and felt very much at home).
Definitely sets the standard for all BNBs! We will definitely be back when...
Read moreOur stay at Abigail's Bed & Breakfast Inn was outstanding! The location is perfect, just outside the main drag but close enough to walk to the restaurants and theaters. We were visiting Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival (Henry V and Othello - both fantastic!), so enjoyed the stroll back the B&B each night after the play.
Susan and Adam, the Innkeepers, provide a wonderful, clean and comfortable nest to base your Ashland experience from. The rooms are comfortable, with ensuite bathrooms and everything you need to make for a pleasant stay. The common areas offer great places to hang out, indoors and outdoors, with Susan and Adam balancing being available to help with questions with providing you the privacy to use the common areas in comfort. Tea, coffee, water, sodas and snacks are always available.
The breakfast deserves a special mention. Each morning, Susan cooked up an absolutely delicious 3-course breakfast, in my case specifically designed to fit into my vegan diet. And each day had a different set of courses! I couldn’t believe the effort Susan went to. Just outstanding!
Speaking of outstanding, at the end of breakfast Adam came around and provided individual itineraries for each guest, with brochures, driving directions and useful notes, all based on what we’d indicated we were looking to do during our stay. Again, above and beyond what you could expect.
Abigail's Bed & Breakfast Inn is the perfect place to stay for your Ashland trip. We’ll...
