My daughters birthday was Sunday and after a day of shopping she wanted to go to Mix and buy some treats to share with her brothers and sisters after dinner. We stood in line for several minutes when two older white women walked in and right past us in line. I said "excuse me we're also in line" and went to step forward. One of the women became apologetic and motioned to the other woman she was with to get behind us, instead she stepped to the glass case to browse the treats there. A moment later, when it was my turn to approach the register the same woman at the glass case brushed past me, literally bumping my arm with her body to get in front of me and my daughter, and just starts ordering. I say CLEARLY AND OUT LOUD "are you serious right now??" the girl at the register looks me dead in the eyes, then back to the woman who cut us off TWICE and just continues to take her order, while the ladies friend who had initially moved behind us literally just shrugged at me and stepped in front of us to join her friend and they placed their order. No one said anything. After a moment of just being stunned, the next register opened and as my daughter and I stepped up, I told her I refused to spend any money there and we left. It was SUPER gross, and while I don't mind not spending money in establishments that make clear I'm not welcome or appreciated there, I'm beyond annoyed that my daughter's really fun and exciting day was ruined by peoples complete disregard of...
Read moreThis is my favorite coffee shop anywhere I've been so far, no doubt in my mind, and I've been all up and down the coast from SoCal to Victoria Canada as well as many states in the south (not that I've tried every place, but I've been to a lot).
They have Stumptown coffee! The place is funky/trendy for the area but not pretentious. We hung out one afternoon and one morning and both times the staff were friendly and the customers were relaxed, overall it's a relaxed atmosphere.
Their macarons are amazing (not the coconut macaroons, these are the light crunchy cookie things), they are extensive but about twice the size of the ones I'm use to at other shops. The baked goods are made on site and you can tell with the flavor and freshness.. On Sundays only they have great donuts, we got some just after being rolled in sugar. They are not traditional round but are instead square pillows of yumminess.
Not a lot of seating inside but there are places to sit outside and it is a very short walk...
Read moreI have been going to Mix consistently for about 3 years. They used to be amazing, and now every time I go in there their service is terrible. Yes, of course their snacks and baking are amazing, there is no doubt their baker is the best in this whole town. But their service is terrible. They aren't polite or personable. They don't smile. The cashier forgot to give me my change so I asked nicely and he gave me a bunch of attitude. After he was a total flat dull line taking my order. Then I was balancing all of our stuff and my baby daughter accidentally dropped some butter knives. A nice woman helped me pick them up, and when I went to give them to the barista he wouldn't even make eye contact with me. He completely ignored me. Next time you go in, just look around and see if it's like that for you. They're rude and they obviously hate their jobs, I don't know why, but it affects everything they do and I'm over it. If you want coffee go to Noble or Case, they have the great local...
