99 China Massage — Local services in Ashland

This is going to be an odd (but hopefully constructive) review.

I'm giving 4 stars (which is high for me) because it was a good massage.

Now, the person that did the massage, also was the one doing the business transaction. She is from China (I live part time in China). I gave her a 30% tip, and she then asked (pushed) for even more. This part is cultural (not the tipping part, they don't do that in China). I gave her another 20% for a total of a 50% tip! (summed up, 60min/$60/$20 tip/became $30 tip).

There is an old Viking inspired phrase 'cutting one's nose off despite their face' (look up the history, it is sad).

You have to ask yourself, is it worth pushing a 1st time client for such a tip, in exchange for it being a last time client?

I did like the massage, but now I'm unlikely to return. I don't like to be pressured, I don't even really like talking to people. But, when someone gives you a 20% tip, stop...

I came here 2 months ago & had a nice massage from a kind young woman with no issues around payment, with pre-payment collected. This time there was a different woman. I was asked to pre-pay, which is fine. I payed the listed rate and added a 25% tip. The woman told me that was not enough tip and that I had to pay more. Excellent massage. I prefer a firm technique and this did not disappoint. It did seem a blend of what I consider Chinese and Thai massage. My shoulder and back pain is gone. With regards to the tipping issue raised by another reviewer, it is traditional at a Chinese massage studio that the low upfront fee is for the facility use and the tip is for the massage.
