Pros: The location is phenomenal for a tourist like me who was visiting for an event. The hotel is a 3-minute walk from the downtown plaza and everything on the downtown strip is easily accessible. Clean room, and comfortable bed. AC/Heat built-in to the wall and provides a comfortable, climate controlled experience in the room. Lots of natural light from the large windows. Plenty of hot water.
Cons: The price point. We ended up comparing several hotels with similar-price points and figured that Plaza Inn would be comparable. Unfortunately, though, that was not the case. There was only one front desk employee and there was a line causing us to wait for around 15 minutes to check in. This is excusable, we probably got unlucky in timing. Though, I will say that Molly at the front was very kind. Additionally, all the offered "amenities" were very lackluster and not worth what we paid for the 2-night room. First, the breakfast buffet was not available due to COVID (which I believe was used as an excuse to save money / reduce costs). Instead you would have to go the the front desk and get a bag of food items from a pre-selected menu. Those items were preserved, prepackaged foods and in all honesty, lame. Next, there was no mention or offer of complimentary evening snacks as advertised. Even the fitness center was still closed due to COVID. Essentially, all the advertised amenities were not available. The provided TV's were dated, but did not ruin the experience, what did was that most of the channels were not available or had very poor quality.
Neutral: The offered "high-speed" internet had a speed of roughly 10Mbps, which I wouldn't consider high-speed, but that term is subjective and as such doesn't affect my rating of the location. I had no issues browsing the web or streaming content within my room. There was what appeared to be an outdoor hot tub, however, I didn't use it. The whirlpool tub was nice to relax in, but the jets were subpar, but still worked. I wouldn't necessarily consider it "luxury" as they claim, but certainly nice and aged classic look. Lastly, we got unlucky in that there was a woodpecker pecking on the wall outside our room between the two windows. I won't hold this against the location as that is outside their control, but was annoying nonetheless, and lead us to wonder if perhaps the building had a problem with termites.
All in all, the location was nice and close to the downtown strip. However, the offered amenities do not match the price point of the room and the 3-star advertising is misleading. This location is a 2-star hotel in practice. If you have the extra money, or value being close to the downtown strip, then this hotel is not a bad choice, just be aware that you will be paying for a hotel that lacks common amenities that you would expect from places like Best Western and Holiday Inn (which had comparable pricing.) Ultimately, our experience was good, but we still felt as if we had overpaid for...
Read moreI honestly can't say enough good things about my experience at Plaza Inn! I was down here attending the Shakespeare Festival in August and everyone here was so nice and helpful! I was worried at first, because this was my first time planning a trip and travelling all by myself, and I had some accommodation needs that I was concerned they wouldn't be able to meet, but they followed everything perfectly!
Rooms: I was very impressed with the accessibility of the ADA room I booked; the shower was exactly what I needed, a walk/roll in shower with no step and a bench. The whole room was designed very thoughtfully; the beds were lower than I've seen in other hotel rooms to make it easier for someone to transfer between a wheelchair and the bed, the cabinet that the TV was in had doors that opened flush with the cabinet walls so the doors weren't in the walkway, and the counters had plenty of space underneath.
Staff: Everyone at the front desk was so nice and helpful! From recommending local restaurants, to identifying birds (it was a Northern Flicker by the way if you're reading this), to making checking in/out a breeze, I really appreciated everyone there.
Price: I ended up paying over $560 for three nights, but it was a weekend in august, which is arguably their busiest time of year . Honestly, it was well worth it to have the guarantee that it would meet my accessibility needs (as opposed to an airbnb or something), and because my stay was so great.
Extras: They have a puzzle room, which is one of the classiest things I've ever seen lol. They have a lift for wheelchair users to be able to use their spa, which is so incredible. I didn't get to see it in action, but it's awesome they have it. They show Saturday morning cartoons (like, old school, Scooby Doo and stuff) in the continental breakfast area on weekends. They'll hold your bags for you after you check out if you don't leave for a few hours (like, check out is 11, but I didn't need to leave to go home until like 2, so they kept my stuff while I continued to explore Ashland and didn't have to schlep my bags around).
I had a phenomenal time in Ashland and am tempted to make this a yearly pilgrimage going down there, and if I do, I know where...

I booked my stay directly with the Plaza Hotel in Ashland, Oregon, speaking with someone named David. He assured me I was getting a nice room with a creekside view in what was described as a charming, boutique-style hotel. Based on that, I even paid extra for the upgraded room. Instead I got a dark, dungeon-like room under the noisy outdoor dining deck. At 7 a.m., the loud creaking from chairs and footsteps above made it impossible to sleep in after 7: am. As soon as I went to my room I marched right back to the front desk to express my concerns about the room type promised, but the young woman there was rude and dismissive. She told me that I had booked that room and only offered a dirty room or a lesser one on the opposite side of the hotel. Neither option was acceptable.
The room itself was extremely outdated. The carpet was dark, sticky, and seemed to hide years of dirt. The velvet headboard was stained and downright disgusting. The bathroom had old, worn tile with grout. The sheets felt thin and used, not what you'd expect from a hotel charging over $250 plus a night.
The entire room felt like an outdated, mismatched mess—like an interior designer’s nightmare from 20 years ago that no one has had the sense to update. The décor was chaotic, and it did nothing to distract from the general dirtiness of the space.
Only good thing was the location.
Save your money. Stay with a reliable chain hotel where you know what to expect. David, you really let us down. I hope this helps others avoid the...
