We booked this place without realizing it was an Air BNB. What a delightful accommodation! There was so much attention to detail that made you know you were in a special place.
The suite was a combination of old and new. The architecture is old, but there are many newer things done within the suite to make it very easy to be connected digitally.
The paint was spectacular, The bedding was well appointed. The window treatments were phenomenal, allowing you to look out into the adjoining yard. We were sometimes visited by deer that would hop the fence to hang out for a while. There is seating outside should you choose.
The bathroom has the most beautiful shower I have ever seen. There was a huge tree embedded in the tile that was a true work of art. The sink and bathroom fixtures were a combination of old gold and bronze - really giving it a sharp look. The door cleared the sink within hundredths of an inch, but it closed without difficulty. There were convenience looks on the back of the door, which I always appreciate it, and adequate hooks for the washcloths and towels. There were also hooks outside the bathroom that lay flat against the wall if not in use. Very nice touch.
The living area had a perfectly sized round table and chairs, as well as a sitting area that was very comfortable and inviting. The refrigerator was a very good size as well as a larger than usual freezer. There was water already in the refrigerator that was cold and ready to pour. The host included coffee and a coffee pot and all the fixings, as well as adequate dishes, glasses, and utensils to re-warm food, or have a glass of wine. They also included detergent and hand soap with a scrubby brush, so as not to contaminate the dishes with dish cloths.
Their attention to detail was above and beyond anything I have seen in a very long time. The managers were also very communicative, calling me just after I had landed to let me know the room was ready, and they had already tried the code to the door so they knew that everything was set for us to arrive. They were also very accommodating on the back end of the trip when it was time for us to leave.
I can’t say enough good things about Swank House, and its matriarch suite. It was very close to the theater, restaurants and shops. Even though they share a parking lot with the post office, it was not what I envisioned. There is a gate that separates the post office from the property. Once you go behind that gate, you recede into a very peaceful space. Even the wooden gate that separates the property from the post office is painted so well to set it apart from surrounding properties.
If we ever have reason to return to Ashland again, this will be our number one place to stay. You will not regret booking this adorable spot for your stay in Ashland. I rarely write reviews, but was compelled to do so because of the extraordinary accommodations and human interaction with...
Read moreOur recent stay at The Swank House was nothing short of fantastic. Located near downtown, the hotel is incredibly convenient for exploring the city's attractions. Whether it's restaurants, shops, or cultural landmarks, everything was just a short walk away, which made our stay so enjoyable.
One of the highlights of the hotel was its adorable patio area. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing, with cozy seating and a charming ambiance. The hotel is well-appointed, with tastefully decorated rooms providing a comfortable retreat each evening.
The staff were friendly and accommodating, always willing to offer recommendations or assist with any requests we had. Overall, I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a centrally located, cozy retreat. We can't wait to...
Read moreWe just had our 3rd stay at The Matriarch and it's our favorite place to stay in Ashland. It's only a 5 minute walk to the theaters (of course this varies) and maybe 15 minutes to Lithia Park. There's a nice co-op grocery literally a block away. And about a 10 minute drive to SOU campus.
The fact that each bedroom has its own full bathroom is also great. The tub in the bigger bathroom is perfect and I'm always so sad to say goodbye to it. And the beds are so cozy!
It's also nice to have some room so we don't always feel on top of each other. Especially with longer trips.
The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, etc. It is laid out a bit inconveniently but it's worth it for how fabulous...
