Guest services and restaurant employees at Rowdy Tiger were nothing but professional.
Beware they only accept credit card as payment, and you cannot pay for your reservation in advance - my supervisor was supposed to pay for my stay, for a work conference, but when I arrived I was asked to pay! What if I hadn't had the money on my credit card at that time? I would have been totally screwed. There was no indication on the website when I made my reservation that by entering my supervisor's credit card, that it was not actually the payment for the room. Put this on your website! Make it clear! Thank goodness I happened to have enough money in my credit account or else I'd have had to find somewhere else to sleep!
Got up to our room and the room STANK like pee. Like, the smell hit us in the face as soon as we opened the door. It was awful. That and the humidity in the room was a horrible combination, the smell was so awful. We went to the market down the street to buy Lysol spray because the smell of urine was unbearable and made me sick to my stomach. I sprayed the Lysol everywhere and the smell went away - proving my point that there literally was pee on the floor somewhere that was never properly cleaned. What do they mop with, just water? Whatever they use, if they mop at all, it didn't work because my Lysol sure did.
The water in the tub/shower never got hot. More like, lukewarm, or body temperature at best. It was barely warm, not your typical warm bath or warm shower either.
The tub itself wasn't correctly renovated - I saw what looked like the piece below the tub faucet not properly screwed on, so I went to screw it properly, and it turned out that the silver piece wasn't even attached at ALL to that pipe opening and there was nothing to thread/screw onto. What the h3ll! They didn't even put some silicone caulk on it to stick it on there - it was just sitting there, completely detached. Poor renovating.
There was no fan in the bathroom. We tried both light switches and there was never an air vent fan in there. That seems like a bare minimum for bathrooms, because of the moisture in the air from showering and obviously for smells. There are a couple vents in the bathroom but no fan motor running, so...I'm guessing the fans were not wired up with the light switches to turn on.
The windows also didn't open (didn't have the ability to open at all) which would have really helped with air circulation since there was no bathroom ventilation.
All night long after it rained, there was water dripping onto the window sill on the outside of the window. It kept both of us up ALL night. Drip. Drip-drip... Drip. Drip-drip-drip... Drip. Drip...drip-drip... all night long. It was loud too, not like something you would have to listen for, to notice it. Pretty sure that water dripping is a recognized form of TORTURE by the CIA, right? Well, we were tortured because we hardly slept due to that sound.
The people were nice and the Rowdy Tiger restaurant was great! But we would NOT stay here or recommend this hotel because of the poor renovation job, lack of truly warm water in the shower, no air ventilation and circulation for the rooms, poor housekeeping because it reeked of urine when we arrived, and the water from up higher dripping onto the window sill with no way to open the window and put a washcloth out there to stop it from hitting the cement and being so loud. It wasn't even raining btw so that was just water runoff from the roof and...
Read moreI had the great fortune of staying at The Renaissance Atlanta Midtown while on business. Not only were the rooms well-appointed, there was a great restaurant on site offering healthy and delicious options, as well as being within walking distance of many other great restaurants (I highly recommend Ecco), and a Publix supermarket.
I ate at the onsite Rowdy Tiger Restaurant 3 times and greatly enjoyed my kale salad with grilled salmon (delicious seasonings on the salmon, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside), as well as the mushroom burger. If that mushroom burger had a whole grain or multi-grain option, that would have been even better. In addition to having a side option of regular fries & sweet potato fries, the burger could come with a side salad, which I preferred and got. I GREATLY appreciated a healthier option for the same price.
In my room, was a comfortable lounge chair directly in front of the big window. I spent MUCH time here. There was also a nice work desk with plenty of outlets and charging areas that I spent much time at, also.
For the big window, there was both a light-filtering screen, and a room darkening screen that could be placed in front of the windows at night. I prefer to let the morning light in, so I opted for the light filtering option.
The bed and pillows were comfy. The bathroom had both a stand-up shower & a standard-sized bathtub, both with complimentary Aveda rosemary-mint shampoo, conditioner, & body wash pumps. Room service was provided every day I was there, which was nice, because I ended up taking a shower in the mornings and a bath later in the day to warm up after being in the freezing-cold conference room.
I was able to keep my own room as warm or cool as I liked, and the HVAC worked quickly to either heat or cool depending upon the need. I enjoyed having the use of a mini refrigerator in my room, and a wardrobe to hide away my suitcase, laundry, and hanging things.
The only thing my room lacked that I would have greatly appreciated was a MICROWAVE. There was a coffee/tea maker in the room, but once my tea cooled down, there was no microwave to re-heat it. There was a microwave downstairs off the lobby, and I did end up using this once to make tea while I was participating in the training in the cold Woodruff conference room.
There were citrus-infused water dispensers downstairs, and even one in the conference room. However, the one in the conference room may have sat a bit too long without attention, because I ended up with diarrhea the one day. After that, I stayed away from the water and was fine.
With the exception of a lack of a microwave in the rooms, I feel this hotel is the perfect spot for anyone on business or pleasure. The staff was exceptional and the facility lovely.
Our whole class was very cold in the Woodruff conference room, even with sweaters, and we were not able to make adjustments that seemed to make any difference.
These small things would not keep me from coming back, but such changes would "seal the deal" for being one of the best places to stay in downtown Atlanta. I will definitely be back if I have the...
Read moreTo be frank, this was the worst experience I've ever had with Marriott. A few years prior to the pandemic, I maintained platinum status as I exclusively stayed in Marriott hotels. Naturally, now that I'm travelling again I chose Marriott. In this case, that was a mistake. I requested the room be ready at 1:30pm. Upon arrival, I was told the room wasn't ready and that they would call me when it was. The room wasn't ready until 3:00pm. Then, upon entry into the room, my senses were assaulted by the smell of fresh poop. Someone, presumably the housekeeping staff, had very, very recently pooped in my bathroom. Further, they set the thermostat in the room to 80 degrees. The combination of stench and heat made my eyes water and turned my stomach. I flew in for a concert with my daughter, and by the time my room was ready, we didn't have time to speak to the manager about the smell and make it to the venue on time.
That night, when I got into bed, I found another problem. The mattress badly needed to be turned or replaced as there was a definite lean toward the center of the room. It was nearly 1 in the morning at that point. I didn't contact the manager because I was exhausted and didn't want to change rooms that late at night.
It got worse. Someone had set the alarm clock in the room...for 6am. I cannot fathom why that wouldn't be one of the things that is checked by housekeeping, but I was furious. I knew if I said anything to the staff at that point it would just come out loudly and with much cursing. So, I held my tongue. But it got worse again. When I got in the shower, I noticed there was mildew on the grout and 2 long black hairs that were smeared on the wall. Neither of us had showered yet, so it's impossible that they belonged to us.
To summarize, my requested check in time wasn't honored, the room smelled like poop and was 80 degrees, the bed was broken, the alarm was set, and the bathroom wasn't cleaned properly. We were checking out anyway, so I didn't go voice my frustration to the manager. With very little sleep and even more problems with the hotel, it would not have come out nicely.
Fortunately, I then received this email to review my experience. I do sincerely hope that this is not what can be expected from Marriott in the future. I and my team now travel frequently for work, and I would hate to think I or one of them would have another experience like this one.
Please, take steps to ensure this doesn't...
